FYI this erases your internal storage sd card. But thank you it was easy
Can anyone else confirm this? it might have happened to me but i thought it was bc i just flashed sfb. If someone else confirms i will add warning to front page. Others had said it erased external storage. My ext-sd is fine.

:O i could have of bricked my half day old phone! JK thanks bro. works like a charm.
haha glad it worked.

SBF flash shouldn't touch your internal SD, though, so it was more than likely the GBreak. I know I've flashed a few times without losing anything on the internal.

It was no biggie. I had almost everything on my external card. Just screwed up my apps 2 sd so I had to reinstall some apps.

Okay a couple questions... First, it says I need an external SD card for this, but it doesn't say where in the steps that it's used...Then it says the INTERNAL SD card will be erased. Does that mean the 16gb of internal storage the Atrix has? That will be erased? Can I just drag and drop those files onto my computer to back up, then drag them back afterwards? Will that save my app data or what?

Also, if I want to do this apparently easier EXE method, what exactly do I do for that? Just plug my phone in and run the EXE from my computer? I've never rooted before. I just have a completely unmodded Atrix on 1.5.7. Sorry that I'm such a n00b!

the external SD is just extra memory that the app will use when running, i think.

yes, internal SD refers to the files that you would see if you plug your phone in and choose "mass storage" usb mode. you can back those up just by dragging them onto your desktop.

i believe that your apps will be saved.

yes, you need to simply plug the phone in, with USB debugging on and run the exe on your PC.

Niiiice, thanks a ton for clarifying all this for me!! So if I follow these steps and try not to be an idiot while I'm doing this, my phone will basically be the same as it is now, just rooted? I won't need to like redownload any apps, or redo any settings or anything?

Alright sweet, again thanks!

So is rooting the phone with this method any different than using the GladRoot? Is the end result the same after these two methods?
It is a different method. This uses overflow, gladroot uses a logic exploit. but yeah same result. You need to download superuser from the market, and use gladenable(it is in the op) to get sideloading.

EDITED: Okay I got it to work! So I have the Superuser app in my phone, and that's pretty much the only thing new...is this right? So...what exactly can I do now that I'm all rooted and stuff?

BTW, I just deleted Gingerbreak is that okay?
