I have written up a short howto on enabling 11n on the Droid Incredible. Due to complexity, it is aimed at serious Android devs. Since I can't post a link due to this post being moderated, go to:

At the end of the tutorial, there is a FAQ that aims to clear up some of the mis-information I've seen posted in various places on the net.

02. Enter ADB Shell (Yes with the adb recovery trick)
03. $su
04. #cd /system/lib/modules
05. #/system/bin/cat bcm4329.ko > bcm4329.ko-orig
06. #/system/bin/cat /sdcard/bcm4329.ko > bcm4329.ko
07. #/system/bin/ls -l

thanks works great, it will connect to N even with my router set to mixed mode. so it looks as if it prefers N but if it isn't there it connects to G. just how I want it.

Can our processors handle the faster throughput, or is the processor a bottleneck?

108mbps (fastest pre-N speeds, AFAIK) is much slower than internal bus processor/memory speeds, not to worry. Only full-speed Gigabit lan is a challenge to a modern PC's bus/memory bandwidth, and we ain't nowhere near that, brotha :)

The processor is not a bottleneck. If you really want to see what kind of throughput is possible, you can download my iPerf app from the market to test with. See my wiki page for details on how to use it at magicandroidapps.com.

Maximum TCP throughput on 11g is 25Mbit/S. For single-stream 11n, you should be able to go faster than that. Give it a try and post your results.

Remember that for "internet" speed tests, WiFi is not the bottleneck, so using iPerf on your local network, with the iPerf server connected to your AP's Ethernet port is the way to get accurate results.

Hey quick question, what kind of test can I do on phone to test the speed of the connection?

I KNOW that a pc vs phone is different, but when I go to speedtest.net, Phone gets 12.**Mbps while PC gets 21.**. Same location, distance from router, time, etc...
