It seems (I am in the process of working this out right now) that the FULL service menu CAN be accessed on ANY modem (including NAE)
I found this information while looking to domestic sim unlock the Galaxy S4 Mini Model SPH-L520.
E:V:A has cracked the service menu for the S4 Mini which ALSO works for the SPH-L720 model!
Follow his tutorial here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=52255287#post52255287

But the steps are as follows. Dial *#0011# and then hit:

==> [MENU] + [Back]
==> [MENU] + [Key Input] + "Q"
==> [MENU] + [Key Input] + "0000"
==> <wait ~5-10 seconds>

I have tested and it WORKS on the S4 NAE modem!! All props to E:V:A. I'm sure he wasn't aware that his method also WORKS on S4 for Sprint, since he is using the S4 international European version. Looks like possible one won't need to downgrade the modem anymore to make this work :)

Hit thanks if this helped you out, and give E:V:A some love

thanks for the help, worked excellent.

No problem. If you know of ANY way to internationally unlock Galaxy S4 Mini please let me know.
I am THIS CLOSE to domestic sim unlocking it as well, but am missing the international unlock.
I've tried region lock away, and the S4 method used in this thread, but no dice as of yet.

I am new here. wants to know how can I unlock sprint gs4 to t-mobile. I have 4.3 version and baseband MK2. give me the whole process first to last. thanks
Flash MDC modem, do international unlock, do domestic unlock, flash MK2 modem back. Search the thread for instructions.

hey there

I'm not new just never posted because it wasn't necessary with all the information I could find and able to make it work. In this case today I am stuck and cant get passed step 4 service menu.

I'm on android 4.4.2, I downgraded the base band from NAE to MDC. I also unlocked it with the flasher. And the phone is rooted.

I got into service menu with no problems but i am not able to go anywhere from there, I tried cdma, gsm/umts, and lte/cdma.

The picture below is in the service menu on gsm/umts.

I am stuck and need help to move forward.

Thanks
That's not the right service menu. If you don't see the options outlined in the OP, try again. What works best for me is 0011, then menu->select->2

But that doesn't mean the international unlock will work on any modem. You need to downgrade for international unlock. And only doing the domestic portion won't make it work - trust me, I've tried lol

Gave EVA and you some love. Good find. Gives me motivation to look into the international unlock. It'd be nice to find one for the Note 3. Especially with the new released information on the service menu. :thumbup:

Since I did the unlock, I've been hanging on stock 4.3 with MDC modem. I'm thinking about upgrading OTA to the latest version. Is it safe to do this or will I lose unlock?

Yeah i would always stick to just Odin and the tar file(s). Glad it's working!
So I am frustrated here..because I am so close yet feel so far

started on stock nae, rooted via cf, flashed to mdc, did the international unlock, did the domestic unlock, flashed to nae

Wifi broken and no signal, flashed to mk2, reflashed to nae, and now have wifi again and fully working signal

I can make phone calls, texts, and access EDGE data
When I select wcdma all from service menu I get no bars and a red x
Reselect gsm all and I get edge

Using a redpocket mvno sim, using their apn settings for android

Really frustrated here

Getting on hspa is my real concern, I'd like to be able to use aio or att..

Read somewhere 850 is disabled on sprint s4..could this be why it doesn't work?

Any att, h20, or rp users plase chip in

The other issue is status shows the wrong phone number, can i get it to work without the msl?

I was able to get my msl and edited both options (put my phone number in each) now status shows my new number and voice mail

Also set the mms apn from ##data#

Two problems remain, one new one old

Old, still on edge

New, get this txt each time i reboot

From 1121611611
8737 error invalid number

I uninstalled hangouts and any app remotely connected to txt and i still get the error txt

You're on edge because you chose GSM all instead of WCDMA all when you were going through the service menu. WCDMA all will get you H+. GSM only gives you edge.

Have you tried restarting and waiting a few minutes for it to register a signal? I've never had an issue using WCDMA all, and it gets me H+ on every phone I unlock. When you have no bars is it in searching mode or emergency calls only mode? If it's in emergency calls only I'm going to have to say you've got a blacklist situation going on (which is weird if it still works on GSM all).

Patience is a virtue, let it sit 10 minutes and got H+ signal.

Did a little more research and got into the iot menu, switched it to global and double checked wcdma all was enabled in the service menu, now h plus pops up as soon as i boot

Also, what do i put in place of my sprint username in the data menu option?? Does it depend on carrier? Do i just put my number?

Still have this problem though, get one of these everytime i boot

That text looks like what happens when I clear error 16s when I flash to Boost. Me thinks it's some kind of OTA provisioning thing. Obviously if you're not on Sprints network it's not doing anything. I'm wondering why it's getting broadcasted to you though.

Ignore the username in the DATA section. That's for CDMA networks. You're using the GSM portion of the phone. It doesn't matter what you put in there at this point, you're not currently using it. And even if you do mess with it, it can be rewritten by activating the phone on Sprint (or one of their daughter companies) and updating the profile.
