doh! Hadnt realised that have to click on fastboot to actual go into fastboot mode.

Ladies and gentleman...I now have a proper android phone ( rooted, bootloader unlocked, running CM9)
Good that you've done it. To answer your question on what difference plugging in to the USB port at the back would make, generally the USB ports on the front of the PC won't have much power to stay connected to the phone. I've not experienced this myself, but I've read it in these forums. Why take a chance? :)

Has anyone had any success using this method on a phone that was recently refurbished or replaced? I have reason to suspect that I bought either a new replacement or refurbished phone but there is no way to know for sure. I have been reading that recently people have been having issues unlocking replacement/refurbished phones on 2.3.6.

I bought this phone about a month ago and as it is my only phone I'm just trying to be cautious.

Hi, were you able to fix this problem? I have tried to use ROM Toolbox and it didn't see any root access on my phone, and so, I'm not able to delete the file. Do i still need to root my Atrix separately? I've tried looking for any superuser app after the whole process but i can't see it as well.

Please help anyone, thanks!
In Root Explorer, on the top, there's an button that reads "Mount R/W". Click that and it'll allow you to delete the file.

2.3.6 and 4.5.2A-51_OLL-17.8

I had a rooted Bell Atrix and I was running 2.3.6 and 4.5.2A-51_OLL-17.8

This bootloader unlocking process was successful for my phone.

For you guys out there ****ting your pants nervous that no one has talked about a guide being applicable to the 4.5.2A-51_OLL-17.8, you can use this one, it works.

Thanks jman316! I was stuck like you and also didn't realize that I had to hit the vol-up to select Fastboot. I was on the verge of pulling my hair out!!!!

I would like to note my experience. Everything from the tutorial worked for me except step 9 in the unlocking procedures. When I powered on holding down the vol-down button, the screen would flash for a split sec and then just stay black. I thought I was SOL.

After some trial and error, I figured out that I could pull the batt to restart and just allow the regular startup (which is a list of boot options). Manually choosing fastboot worked for me. I hope that saves someone the heartache that I went through.
Massive thanks to the OP.

One more note: I had to chance the name of the file I downloaded "recovery-dark green-atrix5.img" to "recovery-atrix5.img" for it to work.

Thanks very much for the clear, concise steps to perform the unlock/recovery/flash on an OTA 2.3.4 device, saved me a lot of time and headaches no doubt ;-)

Only suggestion is to perhaps add the /etc/install-recovery.sh location to the step where you state to remove /system/etc/install-recovery.sh, as I did not realise this until after recovery failed on first attempt and I looked in that section.

I have flashed NottachTrix 1.3.1 with the Faux 1.3 kernel and everything is running great [I was running rooted Telstra 2.3.4 OTA, FYI].
As I had root on the stock rom I had performed a TitaniumBackup of my apps+data to sd-ext, restoring after the unlock/reflash works great!

Thanks again!

Just want to say that your instructions worked perfectly. I was very cautious and scared not to brick my phone since I have already done one in the past trying to do that.... and thank god motorola replaced it for me. It worked great and now I can enjoy the beauty and performance of this great phone....already tried one of the CM7 roms and battery life is double now!!! Another compliment...my wife loves this phone now as it belongs to her and I would be deep trouble if I brick her phone second time!!!
I can keep up with my addiction of installing new roms in my good old HD2 and of course this Atrix as well(if she lets me) :)

Hello,

i am trying to unlock my atrix, but all alltemps failed.

1. root; flashing unlock.sbf ->Failed to boot 1
2. flashing "1FF-olympus_emara-user-2.3.4-4.5.2A-74_OLE-31.20-release-keys-signed-NonEFIGSRetail-EU" the only that works -> not unlockable with the unlock.sbf
3. flashing "1FF-olympus_emara-user-2.3.4-4.5.2A-74_OLE-31-release-keys-signed-rtdach.sbf" -> installation aborted

--------------
German ATRIX (1 week with original vodafone 2.3.4)

I have the same problem. Just got a brand new Atrix but had already 45.31.20.MB860.Vodafone.en.EU FW on it.
I even can´t flash other stock FWs with RSD lite. I always get stuck on re-enumerate and it fails after that and says : RAM -downloader blabla..
Tested it on 3 PCs (1 PC and 2 laptops) with 3 different OS (WIN7 64 bit , Ubuntu Live CD and Win XP 32bit)

my Atrix says :SVF:106:2:3
sec_exception:b655,eddc,eb

My try with Linux: SBF FLASH 1.24 (mbm)

I managed to get to the point where it tries to do something with the BP passtrough by removing and reinserting the battery and booting into RSD mode again, but it failed again at 0% excecuting..

is there any hope for my Atrix ? I really like to flash some C ROMs

Try going into recovery and clear cache and perform factory reset.

I rooted my phone, then stupidly messed about with font changer and ended up with a failed to boot 2 error.

I had to find and flash an original 2.3.4 sbf image with RSLite to get the phone back to factory settings.

I then used this method to unlock the phone and I'm happy to say it worked worked perfectly. Nerve racking but well worth it.

Now running CM7/MIUI hybrid and loving it. Cheers!
