I'm definitely going to try this in a couple days when I'm home from work!

I've only seen one post that says it works with 2.3.6... Is it recommended that I downgrade back to 2.3.4 first (if this is even possible?) or am I just being paranoid? I've got a bell atrix, if that makes any difference.

Also I've seen lots of people recommending cm7.2, as it seems that all of the features work, and I will get a large boost in battery life (sooo sick of my battery going dead after 15 hours), Where can I find a link for this bad boy? Is that the same as the stable release listed here? ( http://code.google.com/p/atrix-dev-team/ ) The release there looks pretty old, but then again I am way behind on this stuff.

All input much appreciated! :)

I just used the OP instructions successfully on a Bell Atrix with v2.3.6 and system v45.21.78.

(the rest below is not directed at stuntman_dan - just general observations that will hopefully help someone out.)

As others have said, I also had to root with these instructions at the end to remove /system/etc/install-recovery.sh, which allows CWM to load recovery.

As StrumerJohn mentioned, the link for RSD Lite is broken. I ended up using 5.3.1 as I couldn't get the newer 5.6 to recognize the device, but that also could have been the usb port I was on at the time.

I've unlocked and rooted nearly a dozen Android devices and was skeptical of the various other post for unlocking this particular one - very haphazard / not at all concise compared to others. These instructions got the job done in under an hour. Thanks tayshun.

Edit: I should also add that if one is getting into unlocking / rooting / flashing, they're gonna need adb before long, and it'll probably be needed half way thru a process when the device is not booting, as was sorta the case here. Better to take a few minutes to check out ADB For Beginners and get it done early on.

Worked like a charm!

Worked wonders for Bell Atrix with 2.3.6! I now have neutrino 2.9 on my phone and it's awesome!

One thing to note though is that you will need to re-root your phone about halfway through the process to delete that recovery file, and you'll also need a file browser that can get root access. Other than that it worked perfect!

One question before I go, is a bootloader unlock the same as a carrier unlock? Can I use sim cards from different providers now? Not a huge deal but would be good to know :)

installing recovery

Edited May 16 2012

[/LIST]
Proper Recovery:

1. After your bootloader unlocked go to this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1204500

2. Scroll down to where it says "ALL USERS" and download your favourite colour. (NOT THE ZIP VERSION) Place it in the motounlock folder that you have on your desktop.

3. Press the windows key + R on your computer, type cmd and press enter

4. A Command prompt will open. type cd C:\users\YOURNAME\desktop\motounlock press 'enter'

5. type "fastboot devices" Press Enter.
5b. type "fastboot erase recovery" Press Enter.
5c. type "fastboot flash recovery recovery-atrix5.img" Press Enter.

Wait for the command prompt to say : "writing 'recovery'... OKAY ['The amount of seconds it took here']"

5d.type "fastboot reboot"
whilst installing recovery using the above guide do i have to put my phone into fastboot mode or do i just leave it on/off?

thanks

Hi there experts

I have an atrix 4g on 2.3.4 , 45.31.0 asia retail
I had managed to unlock , root & install CM7.2 stable version & used it for a few days even then i used RSD lite to reflash back stock firmware just to be sure i could roll back to stock if i needed to. That went well but problem starts when i proceed to unlock bootloader again by flashing the unlocked bootloader fix thru RSD lite i get the unlocked indicator on the phone screen but cant install cwm thru fastboot & so am stuck here at this point.
As i need to use the phone i have again flash back to my stock 2.3.4.
Any pointers on how i should proceed?
Really need the expert guidance here.

OK, well what happens exactly when you try to flash the recovery? What error is reported?
i am at work now so cant do this now but the error is something like write FAILED ...this is on the black terminal screen.
do u think i could do the steps below?
take it as its unlocked since it says so on the screen
root it using petes oneclick
install ROM Manager over Play
use ROM manager to install CWM.
