Flashing with LOCKED bootloader

What are the options for flashing a ROM with LOCKED bootloader? in terms of TOOLand ROM to use?
I assume, it is possible to flash using RSD light, as long as a signed (hence stock) ROM id used. Can anybody confirm?

Best Chris

There are no options for flashing Custom ROM with locked bootloader as far as I know.
You have to use RSD Lite for Stock ROM only.
Beware of Hardbrick if you flash your Atrix to Froyo :)
What is your ROM for know?
What version of Android?
What type of your Atrix? AT&T or International?

The highest stock ROM for Atrix is GB v2.3.6
You can look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1905222
or here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1583199

Here is the guidance for flashing SBF File http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991072

Do at your own risk :)

thanks blloewy,

I use an international Arix 4G, on latest retail release of Gingerbread 2.3.4.

I had a problem with random reboots of the phone, and data wipe / factory reset did not resolve. Phone kept rebooting, so I sent it in on warranty. They flashed a virgin stock ROM, and the problem was resolved. Just wanted to be able to resolve the problem on my own if it happened again.

So I guess I can reflash the same stock ROMversion I am running. I understand I should not try flashing a Froyo ROM. Iguess I should better not try flashing a 2.3.6 ROM, as these were released for Latam , and there could be differences in hardware.

Is there another option apart from RSD lite for stock ROMs & locked bootloader?

All the fastboot file you should put on one folder on the desktop.
Also you must put your recovery.img file too on that folder.

For your error:
Then follow these instructions
Press the “Start” button. The Flash actually failed for me, wait for it to complete to 100% it may FAIL or PASS! just make sure it gets to 100% leave your phone sitting for about 10 minutes AFTER RSD SAYS FAIL/SUCCESS.
If nothing is happening after 10mins, perform a battery pull. Power the phone on while pressing vol-down. “Fastboot” Will show up on screen. DONT PLUG IT IN YET. Press volume up and let your phone sit. You will see “Starting Fastboot protocol support" LEAVE IT UNPLUGGED

then you can continue to next step :)

press the windows key + R on your computer, type cmd and press enter
command prompt will open. type cd C:\users\YOURNAME\desktop\motounlock press 'enter'
Plug your device back into usb now
back in your command prompt window type "fastboot oem unlock" no quotes

You will now receive a warning along with a unique device ID
Type the following commands using your unique device ID (the numbers in the command prompt) in place of the ####
fastboot oem unlock ####
fastboot reboot
your moto will reboot. UNLCOKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Download whatever recovery you like and rename it to recovery.img.
If you're on windows, you have no use of sbf_flash since that's a Linux utility.

Also, could you please use proper english, full spelling and all? This is very juvenile and incredibly hard to read.

OHHH Man Thanks!!!

After searching for and following the steps with all the shenanigans on the "how-to's" with bootloader unlock-root etc... for the Atrix MB860 Asian, I almost gave up but YOUR tutorial is pretty much easier (if not the EASIEST) to follow... I'm off the root/unlock in no time... Thank you!

first of all: good guide, easy to follow :good:

i have only one problem. my Android Recovery has other options then those descreibed in "Installing a custom ROM".
i only have
-reboot system now
-apply update from sdcard
-wipe data/factory reset
-wipe cache partition

i think
-backup and restore
-advanced
are missing. is this a bad thing?

and while using apply update from sdcard and flashing a costum rom, is it normal to have the android figure with the ! sign for minutes without anything happening?

thanks everbody for the help!
