first of all: good guide, easy to follow :good:

i have only one problem. my Android Recovery has other options then those descreibed in "Installing a custom ROM".
i only have
-reboot system now
-apply update from sdcard
-wipe data/factory reset
-wipe cache partition

i think
-backup and restore
-advanced
are missing. is this a bad thing?

and while using apply update from sdcard and flashing a costum rom, is it normal to have the android figure with the ! sign for minutes without anything happening?

thanks everbody for the help!
I think that is Motorola Recovery not CWM or Rom Racer Recovery.
You must install CWM/Rom Racer or TWRP Recovery to get those fitures.
Please check page one first for the guide :)

Hi, I used your guide last night and got through the first part perfectly and got my bootloader unlocked, I also thought id got through the next part aswell until I tried to delete the files that you mention, I used astro file manager and couldnt find them, so i downloaded rom toolbox -
(this one https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jrummy.liberty.toolbox&hl=en

-I found the files but it wont let me change or delete them with rom toolbox.

I tried 2 different rom racer files orange and cyan, and they both seemed to load up ok,
I also tried using android recovery without deleting the files and I just get the android with the exclamation mark.

Any advice would be much appreciated, im a noob and it took ages to grow the balls to do this.

Unlocked, Recovery Erased & Flashed but ... ?

Hey, great guide however, it may just me being thick but ....

I have unlocked the bootloader, erased the recovery and flashed the atrix5.img all fine .... and then I find myself stuck at ...

"DO NOT FORGET TO DO THIS PART: After the install of RomRacers recovery boot up your phone. Open up your favourite file browser (I used Astro file manager to do this ) and navigate to /system/etc/ and delete the file called 'install-recovery.sh' "

Phone has been rebooted but all it will let me do is make emergency calls. No menu, settings, apps just power down and emergency calls!?

Any ideas where I'm going wrong.

Also I noticed that the Darkside ROM suggested is no longer about, links dead etc. Any suggestions?

OK, so it was me being thick. Have astro running but no sign of mentioned file ... install_recovery.sh ??

.... " and navigate to /system/etc/ and delete the file called 'install-recovery.sh' "

The version of the OS is pretty much irrelevant and tells you nothing. What matters is what kind of bootloader you have. Therefore you need to give more information about your phone. Go to "About phone" and check if your phone is the AT&T or the international variant, then choose the unlock SBF variant (pudding or IHOP) accordingly. The rest of the procedure is the same for all unlockable phones.

Yes I can confirm that this method works for Bell 2.3.6

I have just completed it, there was small issue with recovery. But figured it out.

If you have simcard inserted in your phone, the you won't have this issue.

Problem with RSDlite.. I think

EDIT: Forgot to take out the sim card. Once I did that and re-flashed through RSDlite, everything went fine. I will now put on a Noob hat and eat some dirt in penance.

flashing my phone for the first time, I have the international version, running win7 x64 and RSDlite 5.6

I unzipped fastboot and IHOP into the motounlock folder, got the phone into RSD mode, and booted up RSDlite. Followed the instructions, pressed start, and everything went swimmingly as far as I could tell - the process finished, PASS etc.

Problem - when i power the phone up, where it should say UNLOCKED it has "SUF : 108:1:2 Failed to Boot 3 Starting RSD mode". I can't get into recovery because Power + vol. down gets to the same point and goes to a black screen, and I have to pull the battery to try turning it on again.

Here's hoping I just did something stupid (and reversible...).

Welp!
Guys help. I think I messed it up. I did the RSD step and it all went smooth as expected but then I was on "USB Mass Storage" instead of "Motorola Phone Portal", so when the RSD restarted my phone it stuck on "Please manually reboot your phone" and "In process...", but it was @ 100% so I decided to unplug and restart my phone. I allowed me to do the Fastboot OEM Unlock so I tought we're good.
Now when I boot my phone it says "Unlocked" but when I don't see Super User in menu and even if I download the Super User from market it still tells me that my phone is not rooted. So I decided to perform second root but this time I put my phone in "Motorola Phone Portal" and after RSD finished it said "PASS" so I decided to wait for like 15 min. Still nothing happened so I pull the battery and I did the Fastboot OEM Unlock again, but now it says that "This device is already unlocked" or something like that.... Any ideas?

Oh, I also did the recovery flash but I can't see the CWM Recovery in the menu and even if I download if from marker it still tells me that the phone is not rooted.

I'm really confused now actually, I would usually just flash some SBF and do it again but as I read that can hard brick my phone so I don't think it's a really good idea :p
Anyway, please help ;(

Sounds like it worked, if the boot screen says unlocked im pretty sure it is. Mine did the same thing with the root access once unlocked it it said it wasnt rooted but it was. What i did was downloaded super one click on my computer and tryed to re-root it again then super one click told me "root access already granted" or something like that, and that seemed to clear whatever hiccup is there.

You sure it works for 2.3.4? I mean is it possible to hard brick my phone by using SuperOneClick ?

---------- Post added at 12:21 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:15 AM ----------

This is quoted from other Android/Atrix forum
"It doesn't exactly work for all phones, and it creates serious issues for some phones. Such as the Moto Atrix, where superoneclick creates busybox issues that can easily lead to hard or soft bricks on the phone."
