Hi, I have recently gone through 4 Sandisk Ultra SD Cards, which luckily have a lifetime warranty. I kept on getting a failed sd card, every time I went to partition it and reformat it. I wanted to re-partition it so as to have a big main data partition (formatted as EXT4) as well as a Linux swap partition at the end. However, every time I tried, the card would come out un-usable and simply trashed (couldn't re-partition or format it, and it had 0GB size....) Also, originally I used MiniPartition wizard, and this time I used an Aparted boot disk.
Anyway, to cut a long story short, I found that it would seem that these cards need a small amount (say 16MB) of un-partitioned space at the beginning.
For example, on my 64GB card, i have about 16MB un-partitioned space before the first partition starts. Sandisk says they do not support re-partitioning this card, but I think its because they don't want to let on this small piece of info, which may make it look like there is a problem with the cards design (just a theory).
Interestingly, I had a 16GB Sandisk USB stick plugged in at the same time as I was formatting my card, and noticed that it also had 8MB un-partitioned space at the start of the drive.
I posted this as when it was happening to me, I found it hard to find this suggestion, and Sandisk didn't say anything, apart from they do not support partitions. Originally I had the card in another phone with 4 partitions, but was probably saved by the relatively small first partition I had.
