Does the outer touchscreen of your Evo Shift 4G has been damaged or cracked? This take apart repair guide will show the steps on how to properly disassemble and repair a damaged touchscreen digitizer for your HTC Evo Shift 4G.

This guide will help you to install the following HTC Evo Shift 4G part(s):
  • HTC Evo Shift 4G Touch Screen Digitizer Replacement

Tools Required:
  • Safe Open Pry Tool
  • Small Phillips Screwdriver
  • T5 Torx Screwdriver
  • Hot Air Gun / Hair Dryer (optional)

HTC Evo Shift 4G apart guide:
  • Step one is to remove the back battery cover, batter, and memory card. Once that is done remove the four Torx T5 screws located in the back housing. Use a safe open pry tool to release the clips located around the back housing and then remove the housing from the phone.
  • Remove the motherboard by releasing the "pop" connector and removing the two small phillips screws. Once the motherboard is removed, remove the eight small phillips screws located under the keyboard.

Figure 1
  • With the keyboard removed, use a small phillips screwdriver to remove the two screws located on the plastic covers at the top and bottom of the phone. Remove the covers to reveal two more hidden small phillips screws, remove them as well.

Figure 2
  • Use a hair dryer or heat gun to warm the adhesive and carefully remove the flex cable on the sliding portion of the phone. Release the two jaw connectors and ease off the ribbon cable from the back of the LCD screen.
  • Release the other flex cable from the back of the LCD screen and carefully remove the LCD screen from the rest of the phone. Remove the flex cable from the front housing and touch screen.

Figure 3
  • Warm the adhesive and use a safe pry tool to lift the touch screen from its housing. Carefully ease the ribbon cable through the frame and replace your touch screen.

Reverse the instructions above to reassemble your phone.

Do you hear a Crunching, or strange sound when you Open / Close the keyboard ? If you do then it is most likely the Flex Cable that has worn out. It is a fairly common issue with the Shift. But it can be repaired if that is the issue.

You can pick up the Flex Cable from a few different places. You can get it on Ebay EVO Shift Flex Cable , or Amazon EVO Shift Flex Cable. It's fairly straight forward to install. Just be sure and take your time.

Before i buy it just one more question. The touch screen actually works better when its opened. I was reading about the flex cable and it said that if its opened and not working properly. Should i play it safe and replace the touchscreen digitizer and the flex cable? Or does the touchscreen digitizer come with the replacement flex cable? Im pretty new to this and gotta have a working phone at all times for work.

The digitizer has a flex cable but not the main flex cable. I would not like to say which part you need for sure what the issue is without seeing the device. However replacing both would fix the issue.

I would recommend switching the one you think is causing the issue first, and then replace the other if needed. Optionally you can just swap both however you could be buying something you don't need.

It defiantly sounds like it's the Main Flex Cable. Funny thing is I just did one Today. Just not on an EVO Shift. It was on a Touch Pro2  . Know someone who's still rocking one.

hey got another question sorry to sound so annoying but i manged to mess up the phone some more...smh it fell in the toilet. it didn't really get wet cuz the leather pouch it was in took most of the water damage. but i managed to get it dry and the phone looks like its completely dry but when i turn it on it looks like there oil like stains on the screen now. is it say to say that im going to need a new lcd screen...i shut the phone back off and am going to let it dry some more just in case. but i did turn it on and it worked perfectly fine just that the stains were there.

If it is the LCD screen do i have to order a LCD screen and the digitizer screen replacement? ive already ordered a new main flex cable and just waiting on delivery. Thanks For that!!:D

I got a strange problem in my evo shift. I am not able to dial 7,8 and 9 numbers. The touch of that area is not responding properly, I am also getting problem in unlocking the screen due to slider in the same area. Rest of the touch is fine.

erivera1031 so sorry about the late response. Completely missed the post. But it sounds like to me your going to have to replace at least the LCD. I personally would do both.
