HTC EVO vs HTC LEO with android

As of now, has anybody been able to compare The Evo to Leo running android?

I personally have been using darkstones V5 and its incredibly fast and responsive, the only thing lacking for me is the gps, 5mpx (possible 720p recording) and more battery time. If those would be fixed it would be perfect.

Now, back to the original question, I haven't used the Evo hands on. What do you guys think? does Leo match up with all its hardware running android? or will Evo remain the top android phone right now?

Food for thought: After everything is worked out on Leo, could it be the best Android phone around?

What do you guys think?

EVO is 4G, CMDA locked down device. Hardware is similar but it was build to run nativly the Android OS.

Leo is unlocked and can run win + android (with it's current limitations). If devs can (and I think the will) make a nand flashable ROM with all the things in working order, LEO is clearly the winner ;)

I have used the EVO, but only in store, and with all those random apps that have been downloaded, but i can always ask my friend to compare our phones (he ownes the EVO) but this Desire ROM is great although its been charging all night, its only about ~98% and still charging, but its not complete as of yet, but once its done it will be a competitor to actual Android phones.

Sent from my HTC HD2 using Desire v5

I own the HD2 and running the fastest version of Android (see sig) for me.
My wife has an EVO. My daughter also has an EVO. I've played with both extensively.

EVO's 4G is still difficult to connect to or find 4G area. Others have posted main specs so I won't go into that.

If you like Android, the EVO is superior in every way except battery life and construction.
The HD2 gets about 3-4 more useable hours than the EVO, and this is with 4G off.
The battery cover on the EVO covers almost the entire back plate. It's plastic and cheap.

Android rarely ever hesitates on the EVO. Android is at least twice as fast on the EVO.
Android on HD2 - certainly useable with a few missing features
Android on EVO - lightening fast and amazing

One thing people seem to miss is that the EVO, or Sprint's '4G' network for that matter, is not true 4G. It's actually WiMAX simply branded as 4G, but yes it is faster than the LEOs 3G.

I have been using the XTarantula's eclair build and it has worked rather well so far =D

The evo prints money.

I grants you three wishes even if one of those wishes is for an Iphone 4.

I has an app that builds you an island then transforms into a jet and fly's you there.

Its Mf indestructable.

it has the wifi's but very few gb's.

but seriously... Hd2 vs the evo 4g. Are you kidding me. One is native android one is not. And the hd2 is the original the evo is the mistakes they fixed.
Would I rather have the evo not really Im not missing nothing. I mean video chat would just make sexting worse. other than that the more mp's doesnt mean crap for picture quality.

Personally aside from the poor battery life problems which is because of androids lack of a ability to manage the hardware this thing runs pretty well.

I am perfectly happy with my hd2... and heard they are going for 99 now? If so I should have waited.

I got to say EVO has a better technology but sprint kills it, firstly because is a CMDA phone, second because of the outrageous price for the internet, oh and there is NO 4g coverage in many areas and last BECAUSE in a couple of month ANOTHER much more better device will come out.

SO OVERALL HTC H2 (LEO) IS FAR BETTER THAN EVO

using the latest zimage(released today ) , the hd2 3d benchmark scored higher than the evo and similar to the desire , so we are nearly close to perfection , and the speed has increased allot with the latest zimage
iam using stock 1.66 rom without even hspl nor new radio and with 2gb class 2 card , and desie v5 rom and it is really fast

A lot of people seems to be comparing the two phones by "Speed" "Responsivnes" and "Performance".

Now my friend got an Evo 4G, and I an HD2, and I must admit, I'm afraid that the EVO is better on those terms. Yes, it is a bit bigger and bulkier, but Android does run better on it whatever people says. When browsing the home screens on Android on both mine and his phone, it is clear that the Evo 4G is faster. The benchmarks may say something else, but when it comes to what really matters, which is the user interface, and how it works, I must declare the Evo the winner. Its jut a lot faster, this might be hard to understand, but trust me, when sitting with both devies in your hands, there's no doubt.

Also, when it comes to hardware, the screen itself, feels a bit more responsive on the Evo, but nearly as fast as the Iphone, or Xperia X10 mini.

But which phone is the winner? For me its the HD2. Not because of the way that it runs Android, or because that's its a bit smaller. But because of the community that it has created. Never before have I seen so many people dedicated to develope, test, and take part in all kinds of porting and hacking. It is beatifull to see Android work so good on the phone even tho its miles away from being perfect.

It is stunning to see the hundreds if not thousands of ROM's developed for this one and only phone, where people has been so great at providing feedback, to the skilled developers that this community boosts.

And that's why that this phone wins. Because of you! You guys are all the best :D

Well, I don't consider the Evo to be the top native Android phone. I give that award to a member of the Galaxy S line. Better GPU + (IMO) better screen. But I digress...

While Android on the HD2 has improved by leaps and bounds over the last few weeks, it has a ways to go before it matches the Evo. Android is much smoother & faster on the Evo, not to mention the kinks that still need to be worked out on the HD2, and the better camera options on the Evo.

This is actually poetry, and I cannot agree more.
It's amazing to see all of these people working together to make this phone the best it can be, and I'm sure that as time progresses, Android on the HD2 will improve extensively, and I look forward to using it for day-to-day use. :D

I was also able to use a friends evo. For a few hours and ran various tests between evo and HD2 with desire v4. Their UI is definitely 25-50% smoother. Data speed was the same but the thing I noticed the most was UI smoothness and battery life. We went to Disney fully charged. And left at the same time, he still had power while I had all background services shut off and I've lost power. Total off charger time was 6 1/2 hrs

awesome statement there. i personally have been part of a group much like this. it for a device called the casio be300. it was a pda that didn't get a windows os, and we all felt screwed... like the hd2 not getting win7phone. like this group, we all banded together and and flashed the nand to run all sorts of OSs. this whole experience for me is like a dream of the past. it is great!

i've never been so happy i made the right choice in getting this phone over some of the other t-mobile phones i was looking at. =)

What I don't understand is the large difference in 'smoothness' of the UI between HD2 and native android devices, such as Evo/Desire.

People will say, 'it's beta!' or 'it's running from sdcard instead of nand!', but: HW3D is already implemented (and finished as far as I know), and running from slow storage (sd card) cannot make any difference. When scrolling through the icons, GPU+CPU will be used, not storage.

So what can be causing this 'slow' UI on the HD2 vs Evo?

Running from sd card can and will make things run slower.. Nand is always faster than flash memory. And a lot of the drivers had to be constructed so they arent as optimized as they would have been had htc designed the phone for android in the first place.

Another thing about the slow UI, is the slow screen. HD2's screen got a pretty bad response time compared to many other devices, which is really a shame.

To see this yourself, when on the homescreen in Winmo with sense, use the slider in the bottom of the screen. Slide it forwards and backwards and notice the delay.

dont you think that could be solved by a registry edit.

OT Alert: You want fast scrolling between sense tabs in WinMo? Cleanex Ultra Awesome has the fastest speeds known to Sense and HD2

But I digress...

EVO looks like a beast of a device... best Android hardware out there is the Samsung Galaxy S, imho...

Love the "best of both worlds" we have with our HD2 though:)
