I'm in the same boat as you were in; mine's stuck in a bootloop; I don't know if I got s-off though. How did you manage to get yours to stop bootlooping?

I had to reflash the ROM, and as a safeguard, I cleared the cache and the dalvik cache, and rebooted. I didn't lose any of my data when I reflashed it. You can check if you have S-OFF by booting into the bootloader, and at the top, it will say either "S-ON" or "S-OFF."

Gotcha, I figured as much. I remember seeing "S-ON/S-OFF" on my previously owned One VX, but no, I don't see it on my First. I was running Rumrunner and it seemed to work, but it kept saying "Pouring........" and so forth. I'm gonna try what you did and see if I can get it to boot back up

Yeah mine was stuck at "Pouring (2)..............." and it got to about 4 lines of dots until I stopped it, and I guess it worked because I got it to say S-OFF in my bootloader. I also couldn't get it to get S-OFF with Moonshine or Firewater, only rumrunner worked for me. Good luck!

Reporting back. I seem to have come across a roadblock; my First has an image of a phone with a red exclamation mark inside of a red triangle. That's the furthest it'll go. After about 30 seconds, image will go away to show the Facebook logo; that too will disappear and right back to the first image I described. I searched other forums and I see explanations that the phone doesn't have recovery installed. However, I'm able to go to TWRP from the bootloader. I've tried a factory reset but with no success. I guess this has turned into a matter of just trying to get my phone to start back up now haha. Achieving S-OFF will have to wait for now. Do you have any suggestions by any chance?

It could also have to do with the bootloop while trying to S-OFF. Maybe try reflashing the stock ROM and try rumrunner again, and then reflash the ROM.

I apologize; I actually do have S-OFF. I just overlooked it. But this is the problem I have. I'd flash CWM or a stock ROM if I could, but the only way my computer recognizes my phone is when it's in Fastboot mode. Any other way and my phone won't be detected which means I can't even load any files onto it. I know the problem would be solved just by flashing a stock ROM, but again, I have to figure out how to push it to my phone first.

Are you using Windows 8?

Yes. Windows 8. I thought my drivers were outdated so I downloaded and installed a package, but it appears they were outdated as well because my phone won't even be recognized through fastboot now.

The reason that it won't recognize in fastboot is because Windows 8 isn't compatible with the First's fastboot drivers. I had to use Windows 7 to use fastboot.

Suggestions for the computer to use?

Sent from my HTC first using XDA Premium 4 mobile app

Lol I only have access to my computer and no one else's. I believe my friends all have Windows 8 as well. But I meant any suggestions as in what can I do on my computer. (Side note: If it isn't too much trouble, if you respond, can you quote my reply so that I'll know whether you responded or not? I had no idea you had responded much earlier today. My apologies for my delayed response)

Yeah I forgot to quote you earlier lol. And suggestions for your computer would probably to set up a harddrive partition, about 20 GB, and then dual boot your computer with Windows 7 and Windows 8. But you would need to go back to stock ROM if possible, because I tried to use a different Windows 7 machine than what I had from the beginning of unlocking the bootloader to rooting it, and it didn't install all of the drivers. So basically, dual boot your machine with Windows 7/8, reflash stock ROM (if you are not on stock ROM), and install the drivers to Windows 7, and then do whatever you gotta do.

Sounds like a plan. Thanks. I'll work on that

Have you had any luck? I can help if needed :p

Hi. I've been so busy with work and traveling it's ridiculous lol. But I did search on a little spare time on how to dual boot (I had no idea how to lol) and I came across several videos on Youtube: one by Pureinfotech and another by AvoidErrors. They both seem simple enough; if you had a quick and easier way, feel free to shoot it by me. I should be able to dive into it in a couple of days

What is that? Are you talking about the swiping up the clock on the lock screen to unlock?

Basically all you gotta do is setup a partition, about 20 gb, then put an extracted Windows 7 iso on your flash drive, then just boot to the flash drive and follow the instructions in the installation to install to your new partition.

Sorry it's called sweep2wake
Sweep2wake = swiping from the capacitive button, settings to home to back to wake the phone.
Do the opposite direction to put the phone to sleep.
