HTC fixed my N1 power button but it seems like a new phone

I sent my phone in to HTC to have a new power button (PCB) installed.

Of course I only sent the phone with no back, battery, SIM card or SD card. It did have a screen protector on it and was running GB 2.3.4. I didn't take a backup of the apps since I presume they would be noted in the marketplace.

When I got the phone back I noticed that it had reverted to 2.2.1 and had been initialised. I didn't think just replacing the power button PCB would cause that. The screen protector is still there.

Also I had a dodgy SIM card reader in the old phone so it would not register a SIM card unless I stuffed a piece of paper on top of it. I did ask HTC to look at that but the fixed phone still has this problem.

So perhaps they replaced the main board (hence it going back to Froyo) but kept the screen, case and reader parts of my phone.

Annoyingly I lost all the data in my apps that I didn't synchronise to servers and also all my SMS messages.

By the way, I was loading back my apps for about 10 minutes when I got the message about the 2.3.4 OTA update which I accepted. That's nice.

I think flashing their default ROM is something they do regardless of what's the problem with the device. I remember sending my TyTN II for repair couple years ago - came back with ROM re-flashed. Besides, replacing power button does not require changing the whole main board, that's probably why your SIM slot is still broken.

The same thing happened with me when I sent in my N1 to replace a cracked screen. Since I could not factory reset it because how bad the screen was, I sent it in with CM7. When I got it back it had Froyo.

The bootloader was still unlocked though.
