Google strategically bought Motorolla for their Patents and to quash the dominance of Samsung in the android world. This time, Google knows that HTC is only capable contender which balances between aesthetics and hardware and has " COURAGE" to bring something new to their devices. So, I think it's good for both HTC and Google to be one. Who knows the next plan will be manufacturing dedicated processors just like Apple. So this might be the first step towards being a whole google phone.
Nop , whit Motorola they didn't want to go at Samsung and now they are trying to go directly at Samsung and apple market share.. totally different story. You have the article on androidpolice site.

On the day of announcement they won't even mention Htc .. it will be pixel phone made and designed by Google .

Samsung can't and wouldn't leave Android, people rely heavily on Google services plus Google play store is second best app store. Even Samsung pay is dying, banks see no reason to support it over Android pay.

I think you are wrong on that one.

Samsung is heavily pushing tizen. The google apps will most likely come to tizen because google can't lose the complete data of hundreds of millions of devices. Tizen just needs to get big enough and they are heavily working on that.

Samsung for example started an app developing contest to get developers to develope for tizen

Their smartwatches are already tizen based, their newer smart tvs as well. The platform is growing pretty fast.

Samsung considers using Tizen in all products

Samsung Electronics is considering expanding the use of its Tizen software in all company devices to cut its heavy reliance on the Google Android platform, a senior Samsung Electronics executive said Monday.

"If you don't have your own ecosystem, then you will have no future. Tizen isn't just a platform developed for use with mobile devices," the executive said asking not to be named as he wasn't authorized to officially speak to the media.

The global platform market is dominated by Google as its software is open-based and the Android creator is financially supporting third-party developers to expand its base. Because Apple has its own ecosystem, its in-house iOS software has continued gaining steady momentum.

The executive said Samsung Electronics was late in developing content and its own ecosystem. However, "Samsung is getting much better," he said.

He pointed out that as the landscape of the technology industry has shifted toward the business-to-business (B2B) arena from the highly-volatile business-to-consumer (B2C) segment, Samsung's Tizen will see a meteoric rise in market share.

Samsung has built a large ecosystem around Tizen with applications from the largest developers. For example, to compete with Android Pay, Samsung wearable devices are allowing users to make payments with Samsung Pay.

"Samsung Tizen allows developers to make corrections, if necessary, and to redistribute updates to others," said the executive.

Because Samsung needs a reference to solidify the Tizen system, the company is using the Indian market as a "litmus test" by steadily releasing cheaper mobile phones.

"Samsung's Z-branded Tizen-powered phones are popular with Indian consumers. During the first quarter of this year, Samsung sold about 64 million phones there. This means that Tizen is proving its competitiveness," said the executive.

Based on the growth, Samsung Electronics identified Internet-enabled watches, cameras, TVs and signs as the next products that will receive Tizen support.

The company invited companies in Russia to promote the Tizen software and the executive said Samsung Electronics plans to hold forums for developers and to launch various campaigns to expand Tizen's base.

He said more incentives and support will be provided to Tizen developers, though the executive declined to specify what incentives will be given to third-party developers.

"The reason why Samsung is testing Tizen's stability and usability focusing on mobile phones and wearable devices is that we need to have a correction period as Samsung is in the process of developing Internet of Things (IoT) driven business systems running on Tizen," the executive said.

Samsung has made some progress in terms of the share that Tizen software has in wearable devices.

IDC, a market research firm, expects the Tizen share in wearable devices to expand 11.3 percent by the end of this year with Apple Watch OS and Android Wear having 49.4 percent and 21.4 percent, respectively.

Google Pixel And Pixel XL Display Assembly Leaks Show a Balanced Front Design

g0B0Gvx.png

It doesn't look so terrible , when you compare them , but still I'm disappointed , almost the same sized bezel but without front facing speakers , not that I really care for stereo speakers but I do care about size overall and a good screen -bezel ratio .

Still schocked that the xl isn't even 5.5 " :/ 5.4 + on screen buttons will leave us with around 5.2" of usable screen state :'(

It is totally different thing to sell tizen based handsets in lower segment and selling it in a highly priced phone..You are taking Tizen too seriously to think that it is even close to where Google is with Android. I am from India and I am yet to meet a single person having Tizen powered phone.

loved how much he appreciated the design / build, like any owner of the 10 would, hated how he neglected the Sharp display even though we've discussed with him repeatedly over twitter that half the units are Sharp instead of Tinama and we can clearly see the damage of HTC's stock powerbotics on the CPU performance benchmark bars....still despite the caps its preforming competitively, of course unlock it and you can have it fly past the OP3 (s820 uncapped + HTC UI)

the GPU part of the review is a laugh this is because HTC gives you boost+ to counter the 2k loss plus the Adreno 530 GPU is almost throttleless compared to the Adreno 430 disaster (the graphs suggest that the M9 is putting a good fight, which is far from reality)

i love how he praises the camera considering the updates it received and despite the optics limitations, its his fav / primary phone camera for stills, he also knows how to use this thing properly (focus and amend the metering slider if needed)

and ofcourse, Sense is the best and smoothest custom OEM UI ;)

good review and perfectly in line with our conclusions (especially the price ratio), but its too late, the late review is a double edged sword, it takes into account all the improvements the phone got with OTAs especially the camera but in the same time, Anandtech's review are still widely regarded / important for many people and so posting the HTC 10 review so late in the game is a bit questionable, on the bright side its posted right before the iPhone 7 review ;)

shame about the Wifi though...to me that was the biggest disappointment, HTC's wifi used to rule since the M7, so there is certainly a dark story behind it, mostly likely an issue with the s820 modem since 5ghz mode performs excellent

huh ? What's so wrong with the WiFi? (In this test....) It's only slightly worse than the S7.

check the comments at the bottom of the Anandtech review

Joshua even defends why he wrote the review in reply to the phone is dead comment, he defends it by saying he had a lot of demands for it (us?) and it didnt really take time away from other reviews

nice ending HTC...

Yes, but while i myself are affected with bad WiFI Signal Strength some other claim great signal.
There are just not enough devices (samples) and standardized tests/comparisons out there to make a solid claim.
@shox22 and do you know how to activate them ? ^^
Settings -> developer options -> advanced -> gpu rendering for profile -> display as bars

I like how he wrote "TouchFLO has been around since the days of Windows Mobile, and with Android they’ve been shipping HTC Sense in some shape or form for pretty much every device they’ve shipped.*" While talking about Sense.

Many people on here forget that history. HTC used to be the OEM to beat. Samsung originally came up with the name "TouchWiz" hoping that people would confuse it with "TouchFLO".

HTC has fallen far. Unlike other OEMs they can't afford to stumble like they have in the past. It is not by any stretch impossible for them to make a return. Many of the big players were not important during HTC's reign. The bad part is lack of power to get certain parts, and not a large enough cash reserve or Flo to make a comeback. I am hoping the ODM deal with Google, as well as their other ventures like Vive mean they can eventually return.

Rumored HTC Desire 10 Lifestyle specs include 3GB of RAM, 720p screen

We’re only a day out from the virtual launch event that will usher in the HTC Desire 10 in two forms: the Lifestyle and the Pro.

The Desire 10 Lifestyle has previously been rumored to be a pretty device with pale specs, though we never really got enough of a picture to let our opinions go full tilt. But Roland Quandt of WinFuture has brought us a fuller picture of the Lifestyle and, from how his list goes, it sounds like a pretty firm mid-ranger.

Component Description
Screen size 5.5 inches
Screen type Super LCD
Resolution 1280 x 720
Pixel density 267 ppi
SoC Unknown Qualcomm Snapdragon
Type Quad-core
Speed 1.6GHz
RAM 2GB/3GB
Storage 16GB/32GB (+microSD expansion)
Camera 13-megapixel rear (laser autofocus in select models) / 5-megapixel front
Flash Dual-LED
Battery 2700mAh
Bluetooth Bluetooth 4.1
Build Mainly metal in white grey or black
Dimensions 7.7mm thick

In addition to NFC and a newly-visible fingerprint sensor on the back (unlike the HTC 10’s front-facing unit), we find a couple of observations about the Western European version of the Desire 10 Lifestyle: for example it’s said to feature all the upper-end specs and cost about €349; it also will have dual SIM slots, too. More generally, we’ll apparently also see a Micro-B port, capacitive navigation buttons and, oddly enough, a metallic build of some sort.

Is the €349 price tag putting a rather blah spec sheet to combat with more powerful €400 phones or are we seeing a Desire 10 Lifestyle that can proudly shout its self-worth? And what about the Pro? Hey, all it takes is a press conference early tomorrow morning for us to confirm or deny all of this.

That would be crazy:

Looks like I was wrong: now hearing that regular 32GB Pixel (not XL) will start $649 in US. Straight up iPhone pricing. Wow.

David Ruddock ‏@RDR0b11
Don't know what Pixel XL will cost, unfortunately. But obviously more than $649, so at least $700+ I'm sure. That's insanely expensive.

David Ruddock ‏@RDR0b11
Google's big bet, apparently, is going to be in device financing options. They expect people to buy more if they can pay over time.

I'm not really sure how Google would justify $649 for the base Pixel other than "that's what an iPhone costs." Bonkers.

my 10 rave fitbag arrives on Tuesday but my trusty old M8 one works as well

I need to express my thanks for @imOJ for all the trouble he went through to help me get this, this guy rocks and i love Dubai!

phenomenal build quality, this must be the first time i've unboxed an HTC flagships with zero QC quirks, despite all the beauty shots and my work on the 3D render it still hit me, the buttons are simply insane like an expensive piece of machinery, the chamfer makes the phone feels so slim and the weight is the same for M8 / M9 carriers, the grey and the black 2.5D glass combo is simple drool inducing, those getting the silver white are making a huge mistake, there are no plastics to be seen and even the plastic patch on top is awesome

the box looks the same as the M9 from the outside but the inside is fancier, soft coated and much better organized, all the included stuff QC 3.0 charger, earbuds and Type-C cable feels much fancier than previous devices, by the time you finish unboxing one conclusion is clear, this is new chapter for HTC

the camera out of box is nothing like we've seen lately so i've skipped testing it and installing 1.30 before i touch it

the screen is on the surface and anyone thinking otherwise is lying to himself, the screen looks pinkish out of box for few reasons: auto brightness and the vivid mode, i have spent half an hour testing various settings, angles and doing comparisons which i will show you tomorrow but for now: I have strong evidence that this a matter of glue, actually its right there in @jmitr photos ;)

once you raise the brightness to full and change your settings the screen will impress, i agree with David Ruddock, Vivid mode sucks! it's almost disgusting so i have switched to sRGB mode which is gorgeous and the temp slider to full cold, never seen such good whites, even with sRGB it's still greatly saturated vs M9, in short with sRGB this is extremely close to the iPhone, the coolest bit? using it at full brightness with auto disabled doesnt warm the screen at all (suggesting that the screen brightness is capped with the real full reserved for the sun)

ghosting...sadly its true, its a regression from the M9 but hey i've spent the year fighting with everyone here who refused to believe that the M9 screen is much better versus the M8 in terms of smoothness feel ie: refresh rate, so if you worship the M8 screen you will have no problem as the 10 is better than the M8 just not as good as the M9 in terms of ghosting

speakers: OMG, just ignore all the non sense you've read, its LOUD, louder than the M9 and the sound is much crisper, its just not dimensional like the M9 but its clearer and louder from every angle, finally music mode makes the difference, it sounds like stereo, the default theatre mode is inferior to the M9, we have yet another incident of reviewers being too lazy to switch a stupid setting

    more tomorrow

I have decided to show you this, my mockup of the M10, because i don't want to give Evan the pleasure of spoiling the M10 for us, like he did with that God awful washed out photo he has released, here is my render of the M10 which i had made earlier but now corrected to measurements after Evan's front reveal, this is made from all the insider information i have of the M10

note: this mockup does not show the hidden thing on the front ;)

you can really understand the codename now, this is the cleanest most symmetrical phone HTC ever made, it contains the essence of HTC but fulfils everything the press has been asking for
    - no logo bar
    - improved screen to body ratio hence its expect to have the same size as M9 with bigger screen, 5.2"
    - AOSP like UX
    - heavy loaded camera hardware

update v2: refined render with corrected rear camera size, fingerprint shape and clearer bezel
update v3: fractionally wider in order to perfectly fit the M9+ 5.2" screen proportions and every sensor on the front including the speaker was readjusted to match the evleak photo, brighter colors, fixed broken front USB center on v2
update v4: adjusted fingerprint shape based on evidence of alternate prototype, so it could be either v3 or v4 as two prototypes exist
update v5: bigger rear camera and flash/IR, antenna's location corrected based on latest leak, FP scanner, speaker, front camera and proximity corrected using the white photo
update v5a with Sense 8 mock-up: trying to show case how the M10 looks with black wallpaper thanks to Amoled and Sense 8 colors, Desire 825 capacitive buttons plus color tweaks here and there for better looks
update v6a: added the back chamfer matching the silver leak, hence rear camera combo gets smaller just a bit and the side tapers approach M9
update v7a: back chamfer is now more solid
update v8: added real Sense 8 icons

update 4/3/2016: the official M10 render was leaked, comparison with my mock-ups over here

Well guys, it's a sad day. For the first time since I started using Android, I won't be buying the HTC flagship. It's sad because I really love HTC phones, and I got my start as a developer on HTC phones. But I think it's time to move on. My sincere thanks to all the HTC community here for supporting my kernels and apps over the years. I hope people aren't let down by me not getting the U12. I'll continue to support my kernels for the 10 and U11.

Why am I not getting the U12? The honest answer is not enough users. I spend several thousand dollars per year on phones, supported by the revenues from my apps. It's pretty much a guarantee that I will lose money on the U12. I'm already really busy with more popular devices, so I can't justify spending another $1100 on a device that will have few users and require a lot of effort to maintain. HTC devices are a huge hassle to support compared to Pixel and OnePlus and even Moto. HTC still sends their kernel sources as a blob with no commit history, and they are routinely several months late in releasing them. Plus there are endless variants and weird HTC-specific quirks to deal with.

Back in the day, HTC was definitely the best. Phones like the One S and m7 really stood above the competition. Looking back, it was the m9 that killed HTC. It was really a dud. The brilliance of the HTC 10 couldn't make up for it and although the U11 was a fine phone, I just never enjoyed it as much as my other current phones, which have really progressed in the last couple years.
