if you put the nanadroid backup uploaded. and someone on this fourm will some make a rooted rom soon..

if i got the 2.73.707.9 ruu.
what i will do is:

1.get the rom.zip from the ruu.
2.make a rooted 2.73.707.9 ruu just with system image
3.flash this rooted 2.73.707.9 using customize recovery
4.modify the ota part1 just contain the patch,no recovery.
5.flash this modified ota part1
6.then we have 1.76.2007 spl+ customize recovery (such as ra-hero-1.6.2)+2.73.707.9+otapart1.
7.modify ota part2 ,make it just have the system patch.also change the kernel ramdisk's default.prop to make it rooted.
8.flash this modified ota part2 using customize recovery.
9.reboot the system.then we have he rooted 3.34.707.1 rom.
10. get the system image from the phone.
11.make it as a update file.

@anon2122: Thanks, I hope the radio will be useful to some users as well.
@Eddie1506: Hmm, we'll have to wait then.
@sadman601: Well, I don't have the RUU. I'll make my nandroid backups and post them soon though. Hopefully someone will make a quick rooter in the form of an update.zip for me so I can root my official 2.1. :D
@maxdy: Nope, but I'll be posting nandroid backups of 2.73.707.9 as well as 3.34.707.1 soon. :)

Nandroid backup DOES NOT contain SPL, radio and recovery images. Only system, boot and data partitions.

@tenfar: I'm sorry, but I do not have the knowledge to convert a nandroid backup into an update.zip. I'm posting them, hoping someone can help me convert them.
sweet bro.
i will definitely need that nandroid of 2.73.707.9 since i went and goldcard my phone and flashed a generic RUU =x

so now i have to flash my phone back to SG ROM and then i can use the rooted updates :D

Yup, nandroid backup doesn't have SPL, radio or recovery. By the way, the OTA does not come with any SPL, because I had unlocked my Hero's SPL earlier on and it's still there, untouched.

I'm uploading the nandroid backups now, will take a while. And if any noobs are wondering, I created them from Amon_RA's recovery.

Oh, by the way dude... I didn't root them. I simply removed the recovery.img file from the official OTA packages so that you can safely flash them as update.zip format in your custom recovery like Amon_RA's. I'm still waiting for someone to help me make a quick rooter in an update.zip format cause I have some Titanium Backups to transfer over from my MoDaCo 3.2 ROM.

I wouldn't suggest you do that. Some weird things happened when I restored my titanium backups when I switched to 2.1 for the first time. Just bite the bullet and reinstall from scratch.

You probably restored everything including system apps. I'll just be restoring only the user-installed apps that are located in the data and not system folder. It'll be fine. :)

Actually, I didn't. Only user installed ones. After that, my Market app kept crashing, Google Talk kept crashing and Sense kept FC. Couldn't solve it so I wiped, flashed the whole thing again and reinstalled all my apps by hand. Took me two or three hours, but after that, no problems whatsoever.

Ah I see.. Hmm, well I'll still try it out, if it doesn't work then I'll reinstall manually. I'm still waiting for someone to make a quick rooter in update.zip format for me so I can get root access on the official ROM.

I'm getting inpatient, maybe I'll go Google on how to put the SU binary, BusyBox and ChainDD SuperUser app into an update.zip format.

You'll need this:

http://depositfiles.com/en/files/q80umlj3f

1) Put su and busybox in /system/xbin
2) Put Superuser.apk in /system/app
3) Put boot.img in root folder (/) (that's the kernel that came with today's Singapore OTA, but modified to allow root)
4) Put update-script in /META-INF/com/google/android
5) Zip it up
6) testsign.jar and testsign.bat allow you to sign the zip. Run "java -classpath testsign.jar testsign yourzip.zip yourzip-signed.zip"
7) That's it :)

@Eddie1506 and @tenfar: Thanks guys! I just restored my MoDaCo 3.2 nandroid backup to retrieve some apps and contacts, will try the quick rooter in a while! :)
