I have attempted a htc rom port, which was aosp based, which may have worked( looked and felt like my previous rom, so couldn't tell if it was the same or not), but sense based did not after thorough attempts, I will attempt porting sense rom again in the future though.
Buy htc^^.....since in my experience even if you get lucky enough to get booting port for your device, those get stucked in early dev stages because of limiting bugs

Skeuomorphic design is dated
It slow like slug on One V (the only phone I had from HTC before, for one month)
No function really useful compare to stock rom.
The only thing special in sense is the clock with weather (back to WM6.1 days, on HD2) which many widget on play store can do fine.
I see no reason to spend time and effort into porting it.
Good news, I found a Sense Launcher app in the Neo Themes section, which is itself ported from an app made for the desire hd(which suggests the source is from an original htc device, and not a copy), and managed to ask the guy who ported to the Xperia Neo, to re upload it, which he has kindly done, a little buggy but atleast thats something. click here
