Looks like something is happening.

Stopping trade of stock is a strong indicator that HTC is courting a suitor.

HTC only sold the team who designed Pixel and Pixel 2, not the whole mobile department. So, we will continue to see HTC smartphones in the future.

The question is without the high-end team , I hardly believe we will see a true flagship again like U11(it actually is an upgraded of Pixel XL) in next year. The existing products won't be affected bcoz they are already planned and designed, we will see Ocean Master、Ocean Harmony and Ocean Lite in Q4 while the Ocean Master should be a 18:9 with 6" screen of slightly upgraded U11 with improved edge sense.

It says they are teaming up, not selling the team.

Would this have an impact on the existing line of products? Especially the U11 from a support perspective?
Just ordered the U11 a few hours back !
Not really. They just sold the team that is/was in charge of the development of the Pixel. In other words, they sold a lot of employees with experience and know-how. And Google now has access to their patents and whatnot.

But HTC will still make smartphones and hopefully they'll make good use of this cash, given that their financial situation is not exactly great and has not been for a while now.

So you're OK with your purchase, HTC is not going anywhere (at least not now, anyway).

the 1st paragraph states differently... another article stated it was about half of the employees

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CALIF. AND TAIPEI, TAIWAN— September 21, 2017—Google (NASDAQ: GOOG, GOOGL) and HTC Corporation (TWSE: 2489) today announced a definitive agreement under which certain HTC employees – many of whom are already working with Google to develop Pixel smartphones – will join Google. HTC will receive US$1.1 billion in cash from Google as part of the transaction. Separately, Google will receive a non-exclusive license for HTC intellectual property (IP).
