Shift is a very cool idea but in reality it is so crippled that IMHO you can't justify the $1600 price tag. No voice or GPS, vista and Wm can't see each other without hacks that don't really work in real-time, WM can't access the hard drive, vista can't access the storage card or snapview, no palm-rejection technology to make inking possible, horrible horrible battery life running vista, etc. etc.
For that much money you can get a little convertible tablet that is 100 times more powerful and useful with 3 times the batttery life.

I'm going to have to agree with the consensus too big for one and to small for the other. This things is perfect example of bad convergence. Do you really need all the power it takes to run Vista in something this size? I can't see anyone really doing a lot of serious work on it. With the Eee PC not much bigger at a third of the price, I don't see this taking off.

Lol vista....
Wrong choice , they should have used a linux distro on this thing.
Dont want to start a rant between windows and linux , but linux will run great on lower spec devices.

i agree with you. however i think most windows mobile users will find the interface more familiar than linux.

The shift is a Nice baby. the price tag may be on the higher as it has been targeted as biz. device. but I do think price will come down very fast. Some guys claimed it can now run full WM6 and soon make phone calls.
