ok last week my voice dialer was fair, it worked for most of my contacts when i told my titan to call someone, but yesterday forget it, it was thanksgiving and i had to make a lot call and i told my phone "call joseph adams" and she would reply back in her english accent can't find name in contacts list and then i tried different ways of saying JOSEPH ADAMS, i said it in an english accent and then i tried other names and she couldn't understand i almost through my phone across the room, is there anyway to fix this?

you are not alone. we are all in the same boat. it's the bing voice recognition. not the phone.

I think it's a bug in the Titan.. The voice dialer should work much better than it does on the Titan.. I've seen a video where they test the Titan up against the HD7. The HD7 understood 10 out of 10, but the titan only got 3 out of 10 or something like that.. Another HTC issue with bad drivers for their devices.. :/

Where is the mic on our titan?

May be its too low for recognition? because it doesnt even dial wrong person. it just fails to understand! probably it cant hear us?

Don't think so.. The indicator on the screen indicates that it receives sound.. I think the mic is located where you normally speak, near the shell button.. But hey, what do I know, all i know is that the Titan performs horribly compared to HD7..

The problem is that we can only choose English as a display language, which is English UK effectively. And the UK accent recognition is horrible. My LG Optimus 7 was great in recognizing everything.

I guess we need to get an AT&T ROM that has English US on it... anyone? :(

Guys, it might be more complicated than what we think.

I downloaded an app called 'WhatIs' from marketplace. It's basically a SIRI that will only answer 'What is.... ?' questions.

I asked What is potato? and it recognised me in first go and described it too!

Also, it plays back what it heard. So it played me back my question and from that recording I can say the phone can definitely catch up on what we say. At least for this particular app.

It might be the inbuilt software is buggy on titan?

Did you guys ignore what I said? lol
It's the British recognition on Bing. Other devices can be set to American, but the Titan can't. That's all there is to it.

Also, check the second last paragraph of this article: http://www.neowin.net/news/microsofts-tellme-not-the-same-as-siri-as-video-explains

"It appears that, for the moment, voice recognition for Australian English needs work on Windows Phone, and that more commands should be recognized other than quickly falling back to searching for an unrecognized phrase on the Internet. Hopefully other English accents (or other languages) fare better than this!"

Even the Australian Bing has problems.

That's why we need to port an AT&T rom to the European Titan :)
