I went all "YAY!!" when I saw HTC's tweet this morning!

Now, like madindehead said, they better deliver on this and fast. Otherwise, this is gonna come back right at them and bite them in the a**!!

Now I'm considering the Sensation again...

This is great news.
I own a HTC desire and was not going to buy a Sensation because of the locked bootloader. If HTC decides to change this policy I seriously will consider buying this phone.

If HTC wants to keep their bootloader locked I suggest they take lessons from Sony Ericsson on how to handle this: http://blogs.sonyericsson.com/wp/20...e-boot-loader-in-the-new-xperia™-smartphones/
I'm in exactly the same position... I will be on the phone to Vodafone the second we hear about the bootloader issue. If it's the news we want it'll be for a Sensation, if not, might just keep my Desire for a while longer!

Really don't like the GSII, feels poorly made (as usual).

Just think of how many notifications they were getting per second on facebook. There was a hell lot of complaints yesterday, every second! I was there, I posted too :p

After this anouncement from HTC, I hope for the best. If they are to unlock the bootloader on their devices most probably it will come as an update that includes an unlocked HBOOT?

I can see the advantages for locking the system for Joe Public. The carriers get to put their restrictions on - which are possibly a part of the contract (ie tethering). Joe Public doesn't get to f**k up a very expensive phone.

Now HTC know who are the very clever developers are. They could 'accidentally' send the required files needed to unlock the system (but not the sim-lock). Now why would they do that? Well I've read a lot of posts/tweets/etc of the early adopters choosing to just go to the Samsung Galaxy SII because it is unlocked. It is the early adopters who tend to be the most vocal - thus the best and cheapest promotion.

My contract is due in a month or so, and as you can see I am already checking out my next phone. Six previous HTCs and wanting the Sensation to be number 7. But if it remains locked, then it is hello to SGSII.

You're correct. If they did anything but offer a crack for the Sensation at this point, it would only make matters far worse for them.

By making the post they've tipped their hand that something is coming. If they don't deliver something it will be far worse a backlash than if they never said anything.
Yup, their statement basicly means they have to unlock it soon (2 weeks max)....and they will, mark my words.

I think the suggested online "trade your IMEI and warranty for an unlocked phone" deal sounds quite possible. That way that can make sure that everyone who does it knows what they're getting into... ..and would people really complain? I doubt it as you should know that you're voiding the warranty in the first place and this is just HTCs way of confirming that you know.

Let's hope so but things can go the other way - look at Motorola: promises to review the issue before Atrix release, then says they should have a solution within 30 days of Atrix release then later says they should have a solution in the autumn.

Well, lets just hope they learnt... people crossing over to Galaxy s2 and other brands just for the simple reason of an unlocked bootloader... lets hope the promise of more sales turns the decision!

People did also turn to the GSII because it has better specs. - on paper at least.

Okay, so the facebook page is going crazy! One new post every minute. We need to get this news to wallstreet somehow (something like - HTC faces customer backlash on FB). That's the kind of stuff that effects stock prices. No one on wallstreet knows what a ROM is - but they know that customers shouting implies short the stock!

l dont think they will unlock bootloaders but worth a try. These companys have plans for years they dont change it for us at least immediately. lf HTC does that l would be suprised.

I agree but it's so weird. They say they're reviewing the situatuion.

Surely that only means there going to come out and say it is locked? or that they're taking away the lock?

That comes weird to me too but what could they do? Every minute someone says "unlock it". People needed an answer so HTC gave it. Maybe guys who are responsible for Facebook page didnt know what to do even what locked bootloader is. There are so much assuming here. Lets wait and see again.

I see no problem with giving them your phone imei to unlock. Your warned again and again, unlocking bootloader voids warranty, yet everyone still goes forward with it.

I think its only fair to know who is willingly voiding warranty. Provable manufacturer defects surely are arguable

You folks who want to agree to that can go right ahead. If HTC tries to play that game, I'm buying a SGS II instead.

If I have a hardware defect and can relock I can prove the defect is NOT caused by software.

That's right, just like in the HTC WM days, if I have an issue that is not caused by unlocking then I'm relocking for coverage of the hardware defect.

If others can provide unlock with no strings, so can HTC. I'm not holding HTC to any lower standard.

Well, that would require me to buy before they unlock it ;) . And that's not going to happen.
