Just to clarify, the root method above works for all Honor 5x variants and also GR5.
I know that this thread is old, but have you tried unlocking you're KII (gr5) with KIWI (5x)...?? also... can we use KIWI roms for KII devices? I want to Install CM13 on my Gr5 so badly but im scared that i'll brick my phone if I use the KIWI rom.. thanks in advance :D

Yes. They work perfectly.

Sent from my honor 5X using XDA Labs
So does this mean if I want to go back to stock firmware.. I can go and download the stock EMUI recovery image if I want to Unbrick/Unroot/Uninstall Custom rom?? Also that means that I can also get OTA Updates again right?? thank you very much :) :D

Just check if the stock firmware is for your model variant of gr5, and one advice backup your efs because you could lose if you do something reckless like restoring a backup from another variant, so be careful, as for stock firmware your variant you can get it from the official site.

Ps: when I type I tend to forget some words (don't know why) backing up your efs will prevent you from losing your imei which could render your phone unusable, hope this clarifies it.
I actually plan to have 2 backup images, one from the official Huawei website, and one from the current stock rom im using since TWRP can backup the images. I also have every important information (serial Code & ID, IMEI) about my phone if ever something happens

That's good but you need to backup your efs with an app (ex: efs backup or whatever) not just knowing your imei, that way if you lose it you can restore it with the same app, because if you do that manually you'll struggle.

HELP!

No compatible Xposed at this time. Therefore you can't use gravity box.

If you use KII-L22(GR5 has variant KII-L21,22,24) , SImply Unlock bootloader, Install TWRP then install SuperSU same as KIW-L21/22/24.
Since I use KII-L22, I can't say TWRP works KII-L21,24.
You can find TWRP thread, and bootloader unlock thread. Read it.
Have you encountered any problem regarding your device not properly installing its drivers on windows? because i cant connect my phone (KII-L22) on my pc.
