I doubt the Mate 30 series will even be sold outside of China. A couple of months isn't enough for Huawei to create their own app store for the Western market, and nobody is going to buy a $1000 flagship that has no Google Services and only the very poor app selection of Huawei's current App Gallery.

It would be easy for us as XDA users to sideload the Play Store and Play Services with APKs, but it's obviously not an option for the average customer. It'll be interesting to see how Huawei will handle this disastrous situation. Unfortunate timing considering the Honor 20 launch is in two days.

Common guy's...its just a phone! If its not Huawei it will be another one. Other good phone's out there and be honest, times that Huawei phones where affordable are over. We are now in Apple's and Samsung territory price range, for me time to move on when ditching the Mate 20, for now I enjoy it as it is. Will see what the future holds...

If the oompa loompa thinks that this move will make me by a "USA USA USA" Apple phone then he's more stupid than I already think he is. If the choices boil down to either Samsung or Apple then I'll not bother with a smartphone and develop on legacy tech or simulators

Well, I won't be considering Huawei anymore though. I inherited my Huawei Mate 10 from my kid, and it's a good phone. Being unrooted, I use it for apps with payments.

Time to prepare to change it one of these days, waiting for Xiaomi's Poco f2 to supplement my f1. Still Chinese but I think they are in a different world from Huawei where Huawei is more than just phones or consumer products, definitely can raise concerns about a country's security.

Google can also be used by the USA to spy on other countries too lol. Anyway, China was first, they banned Google stuff, Facebook, Whatsapp, etc.
Xiaomi is a bad move though, they're also a Chinese company, so you run the same risk of losing support

Uhh... It's "just a phone" that I happened to be locked into a 2 year, $130 a month plan with. Maybe that is chump change to you, but it is a long term investment for me.

buzzword what they as usual they will put their head under the ground striders... Smart phones very small part of the company but the direction is cleaer they will keep everything silent and slowly die out. Such a company which selling serious telco bacbone units shouls card of reputation and can’t afford being a strider... Almost 1 year and they could not improve their reputation great job!!

I think Xiaomi and Trump get along, as well as with Qualcomm. Xiaomi is just a phone and consumer product maker. Anyway, it's half or 1/3 the price of a Huawei, and I can root them, so no problem..

Huawei, as one mentioned, is a giant that doesn't live on phones alone, they have other bigger businesses that affect communications, and many other stuff that will make a country wary.

This reminds me of Hitachi, they even make elevators lol.

Anyway, I don't like Samsung, I like Huawei, Xiaomi, OnePlus, even Asus - just turns out to be all Chinese or Taiwanese.

Right, Huawei is darn expensive, the biggest thing I don't like about it. I almost bought a P20 pro for my kid and get tied up for 2 years too, but they sold out. The telco said Huawei was like Iphone these days, both sell out fast (obviously not in the near future). Ended up with an Oppo, which at least my kid likes for his games.

Your network provider is earning good money on you, 130USD or 116€ is a lot of money to fork out on a monthly bases for a phone, hope you have a golden plan in return!
Always buy my phones so I am not locked/hooked up with my phone/network provider and never buy them new either!

Statement from Huawei..

“Huawei has made substantial contributions to the development and growth of Android around the world. As one of Android’s key global partners, we have worked closely with their open-source platform to develop an ecosystem that has benefitted both users and the industry.

Huawei will continue to provide security updates and after-sales services to all existing Huawei and Honor smartphone and tablet products, covering those that have been sold and that are still in stock globally.

We will continue to build a safe and sustainable software ecosystem, in order to provide the best experience for all users globally.”

They have no answer, this letter I understand on that way.
I am very sad. I have mate 20x, nobody produces such big phones.
Is this mean there will be not android Q for mate 20 series?
Or not, it is old phone?

I'm not 100% sure about this one, Huawei already has access to Android Q beta, so i think Google and Huawei already had an agreement on this software update. This would mean Android Q would be our last big firmware update for this moment.
All Huawei's access to Android has been suspended. They no longer have access to the beta, and to security updates. That is why there will be no more updates.

The one way Huawei could provide Android Q is to wait for it to reach AOSP. However, Google propitiatory applications, such as Google Play services, are not included in that, making it worthless for all practical purposes since users cannot download any Android apps

That would suck if we lose Android Q update.
Android security updates are not from Google and are still available available according to Google's statement from this morning.

No, the Google statement says only that Google Play and Google Play protect will continue to work on existing devices. Security updates are from Google, and Huawei will lose access to them. However, they come to AOSP too, so maybe Huawei will source it from there.

Ehm, competition is good for customers. If they again bring all customers back to Samsung/Apple, we end up suffering from high prices. Honestly, newest model rance P30 have quite competitive pricing. I mean, look at P30 Lite, this is beast for the price.
