So I rolled back thinking I'd get OTAs. I didn't realize how far behind schedule they are for updates. Kinda ridiculous really.

My videotronn mate 20 pro is still in march update , i went to carrier where i bought and they said your phone does not need updates and that its normal.
While the p30 pro has 9.1 allready and p30 lite has july update. Huawei was such a bad decision and i cannot even sell this phone because no one wants it ....

Just got it also, I am with Bell Canada.

Yes, but you can try hisuite method. I see the data partition remains F2FS unchanged. So, that may keep your userdata safe.
