Videotron customer: got it last night, I swear we were waiting for nothing. I can't see any difference after the upgrade, just slightly worse battery drain when idle over night.
That might or might not go away with usage.
Even Power Genie which I uninstalled a few weeks ago was NOT restored by the update (not that I complain).
Needles to say, the Always On Display bug with the Huawei "Smart cover" is not fixed (display still turns off).

All the wait for microscopic benefits.

If I want to load the official Telus version, do I need to do anything special with HiSuite for it to work in eRecovery mode?

Erecovery u punch in wifi credentials and it downloads latest for YOUR device
Ahh. I didn't realize there's a difference between recovery mode & eRecovery (the latter is done by holding Vol+ while plugging in the phone). Got it sorted out. :)

9.1.0.300 the "original" one. Apparently 306 has the July security updates in some regions.

BTW: we didn't get the ARK compiler as part of the "outside China" EMUI 9.1 update. That is also supposed to speed up apps launch and execution.

Ah FFS...I was afraid of this: Huawei Launcher now burns most of the battery - when in standby. In my view (based on Accubattery data) probably at least double of what it used to be in 9.0
Switching to Nova for now - I want to see if there is anything else lumped under the launcher consumption.

Just got it from Bell and is it really worth the upgrade, I hear battery issues???

Finally got 9.1, as others have mentioned it really didn't change anything. The phone *is* noticeably 'smoother', which is the only way to describe it. The update didn't break anything I had tweaked either, like running Nova with an icon pack and custom font, etc. One thing is for sure - the settings menu is an absolute mess now.
So is it still worth the update?
I got it from Bell this morning but reluctant

Battery gets worse for maybe two days before getting better overall. I think it's much better personally, way smoother

I agree, the battery seems to "re-learn" patterns of use (I guess the old stats were wiped out) so it's back to what it was on 9.0 - almost.
On Videotron I FINALLY got VoWiFi after 9 frikkin months of constantly opening tickets with the provider. VoLTE was enabled back in April.
Almost there...ARK compiler next?

BTW as I mentioned in a previous post, I uninstalled Power Genie to get notifications properly and to maintain mental sanity ?
