The app has some pictograms / icons depicting different things ( a camera, a microphone etc) that on my phone were replaced by characters. Also in the screenshot with the active keyboard there should be a toolbar just above the keyboard with text formating options ( B for bold, I for italic and so on). Basically, all the icons were replaced by characters. I attached a picture with the normal app for reference.

Did you restore this app from another system with Backup app like TitaniumBackup?

Try to open settings /apps/ Evernote - inside above open storage and delete data and cache. Reboot phone and try to open Evernote and look if it works now. If you not, do same steps but after uninstall it and reinstall it from Playstore.
Tell me how it does.

I wanted to extract recovery by Huawei Update Extractor but cannot download Update.zip from Firmware Finder - tried twelve times, sometimes it reaches like 25%, sometimes even cca 80%, but eventually download always fails ( Download error).

Did you try to flash GApps, I don't know if they are working on AL10.
Debranding of AL10 is very difficult if you are already on Android 7 and there's no Downgrade Package to Android 6 for AL10.
On Android 6 it wasn't a problem to debrand to L19 or L29.
I finish my next Rom v3 soon. I can try to make Data Files for AL10 for this next Rom.

Guess I will downgrade it to android 6 and then use the SRK to de-brand it then. I can do this by forcing flash a update.zip and force emui recovery to download and restore.

Did you try to flash GApps, I don't know if they are working on AL10.

@Tecalote I get some apps closing themselves after opening them for the first time...! is there a way to fix this...? It is not a force close, just the app closes itself but keep in the background....! i.e if I was typing on whatsapp, it closes itself... when i open the app again, it is still running and I can complete what I was typing....!

Okay, then you must update Busybox - search in Magisk Manager /Module for Busybox for Android NDK by Osm0sis and install it directly from Magisk Manager.
Search here on this Thread for Huawei prop fix v2 (I am on work now) and update this module too (restart is required for both)
At least wipe Dalvik and Cache with TWRP.
And be sure Magisk is updated to v14 and also Magisk Manager to latest apk

Are you sure you can flash Full Android 6 Firmware for AL10 over Android 7?
I know AL10 is different, restoring system from eRecovery for example is not available on L09, L19
But L09, L19 and L29 need b300 Transition Pack to downgrade.
On AL10 is not required?
