Ah. Great to hear. I flashed a the USA rom over my straight talk W1 and now only recive 2G/Edge instead of the default 4G/3G and was hoping that this jailbreak would solve that problem hopefully in the near future. I'd be willing to test, if you need testers to help out.

Great work! This opens potential for other Wp8 phones now. I'm wondering if there is anything special you did to the ROM dump other than modifying the Hive. Since we have access to Lumia 920 ROMs, I'm wondering if the ffus are signed preventing us from making changes to the hive then redeploying

He says that he have unlocked the bootloader. That might be possible only on Huawei W1, I think.

Yeah, modified ROMs (which will invalidate the signature that they definitely all have) will only work if you can remove or bypass the loader's signature checks. We'd have had custom ROMs on Lumias long ago, otherwise.

don't forget about Secure Boot :)
even if ROM is flashed it isn't that trivial to make it booting.

Wow this sounds great.
Can you post a tutorial how to unlock bootloader and dump that OS?
If its true, the W1 will be a top-seller in the next month

hmmm...

on all the other phones, we still need to find a way to unlock the bootloader for custom roms. With all this other stuff though, maybe we can find a way to dev unlock stock phones? Find workarounds. I haven't looked into it, but with nokia care suite cant you install a stock rom back onto a nokia? If you can, maybe theres a way to create a fake server where redirect nokia suites to download from.

I have a Huawei Ascend W1 from straight talk that I'm trying to unlock to use overseas. I purchased an unlock code, and according to all the online instructions, when you insert a foreign sim card a menu will popup asking for an unlock code.

Instead, when I do that, I get a sim card error message, and it only allows me to make Emergency Calls.

Anyone know how I can input the unlock code, or if flashing the stock Huawei firmware (it currently has straight talk firmware) will have any effect?

Just making sure: you are fully powering off the phone not just putting it to sleep) before replacing the SIM, right? Removing the SIM from a running phone, even unlocked, will give you the error you see there. Also, I'm pretty sure something has to be done on/to the phone to start the unlocking process, before you can get the "enter unlock code" screen. I've seen it done but don't remember the details. I just bought a SIM-unlocked phone instead of dealing with that hassle.

7/24 Update:

And, I think W1 and all other wp8 devices are really good friends, once W1 get jailbroken, he would carry all his friends with :). The only problem is FFU file format now.
That's wonderfull news,
You have all my support and my thanks.

Please keep us informed, this community is eager to let the wp8 homebrew scenario finally grow
wp8 deserves it

If you have a paypal account for donation I think you should make it public
