I haven't tested it -- nor do I intend to -- but the obvious answer is: of course.
Anything will get hot with its screen turned on for that long.

I've tested heating issue while watching videos, it is actually normal. however taking video with camera will turn the device little bit heat. no issues with movies, cheers.

no heat issue while watching 720p or 1080p movies in VLC and also no problem while watching youtube videos, I daily watch almost 3 hours of movies during my travelling.
