I have pondered my feelings on this subject and this is what I came up with:

I have come to the conclusion that if we want fast updates we need to only purchase Nexus line devices. There are tooooooo many different devices that run Android and that is the main problem (because of different hardware). So this will always continue to be an issue. I only hope that more and more Nexus devices come out in the future and eventually we will all get all updates at the same time (just like that fruit company). Until then I just recomend people just stop complaining.

only problem with nexus devices is no external storage. such BS. if that 32gb wifi and HSPA+ Nexus 7 had an external micro SD slot my 7.7 would be for sale yesterday.

I think Samsung weigh the profitability of JB for 7.7 & chose to ditch it due to the europe ban. For me, this will be the last Samsung device I will ever buy. I don't hate Samsung but there is definitely no love.

I'm interested in a generation 2 7.7.

I also would like to get my hands on that new 7.7 plus. It doesn't have exynos, which means its probably easier for cm developers to port cm to. If its anything like this tab, there would probably be no dev support tho lol

I am in The Netherlands and I so much hope that Samsung will release an official ICS version for my 7.7. If they don't this will be my last Samsung product.

I mean if the ban is lifted and good firmwares are available elsewhere, how difficult can it be to quickly launch ICS for Xmas.

In NL there has not been a official release by Samsung. I would understand if you would nit compliment me for it, but I simply do not dare to install it myself. Too afraid that I will void quarantee and brick this great device. Perhaps one day I will find someone to do it for me.

Where would I find the simplest instruction which would allow a dummy like me to do it without destroying any functionality of the phone?

1. Download DXLQB

http://www.hotfile.com/dl/180365492/f0eea6b/P6800XXLQB_P6800OXELPA_SEK.zip.html

and extract the .tar or .tar.md5 file in the archive and save it somewhere

2. Reboot your phone to download mode.

To get download mode shut down the device. After it shuts off completely simultaneously press the Down volume key+press the power button .

You should see a warning asking you to press volume up if you want to continue or volume down to cancel, press volume up. You are now in download mode!

3. Download Odin

http://www.filefactory.com/file/c2f6d8c/n/Odin3+v1.85.zip

(Just extract Odin folder and keep the odin3.ini file in it)

Start Odin

4. Click on the PDA button and browse to the .tar or .tar.md5 file that you extracted in step 1

5. PLEASE DO NOT PUT .PIT FILE AND DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT TICK REPARTITION.

Should look like this screenshot:

6. Connect the USB cable and wait for the ID:COM section to turn yellow

7. Click start to flash

8. Do not disconnect the cable or turn off the device, it will reboot when it finishes.

Was just going to close this, but since the last couple of posts are of some actual help and information to some users, I am keeping it open for now with a slightly different thread title. Continue keeping it clean and everyone enjoy the last of the weekend :)

And don't panic if the reboot takes a bit time! Just let it alone and all should be good. :)

BTW melorib...nice tutorial.
