Even so, @ 17,000 hours @ 24 houts a day is 708 Days. 90% of people do not keep devices more than a year. Personally I keep them MAYBE 6-8 months before I upgrade. So why sweat about the screen? I am going to put what ever color I want and that I like. End of story.
+1

Please stop worrying people, we are talking about of little tiny blue icons...
Worst : I will worry much more about a permanent GRAY bar with white icons (blue led is also turned on for white) than a black bar with blue icons.
At this step if you are still worried, just use HoneyBar or...turn off your Tab :p

Moreover, every things has a lifetime, just enjoy your device and stop to worry!
AMOLED is not a perfect technology like others one. Just choose the one you prefer.

Best Regards,

Factual Evidence to back this claim up?

If you need factual evidence just look up "OLED lifespan" on Google, or just search "burn in" on this very forum. OLED burn in is no "claim" it is just reality for this tech.

The 17,000 hours is to half brightness. You will notice the permanent IR/burn in MUCH sooner, at 1/10 or 1/8 of original brightness. The issue is that the blue goes so much faster than the other colors so you get color shift to yellow as the blue degrades.

You can put whatever color you want but know that isn't very OLED friendly. Sure you can say "then just don't use my app/ theme!" Well OK but some users don't know the issue until it is too late and say "Hey howcome there is a permanent shadow of all my status bar icons?". There also could be options for other colors that the user could select. Or whatever, but people should at least know the risk.

Is a version for GT-P6810 possible? Or can anyone tell me how to do it? Is it just replacing images in the apk, or do I have to code something?

If there are concerns about the blue color, why not make the icons grey in the bar and leave blue in settings for example?

A black bar also helps in saving power (a little at least). The grey bar is really ugly imo...

Um, gray uses blue as a component color you know. Take the red and green from the gray and you are left with blue. You know the whole RGB thing.

You would need to make the graphics with red, green or combinations of red and green (such as yellow) to avoid blue and burn-in.

A black bar with yellow icons would be fine for me, with the battery being green when full and red when near flat.

You are right of course - didn't thought of that first. ;)
But if making a dark grey (which is useable because if the bar is black, the contrast is higher and so we can make the grey darker), there wouldn't be as much blue in it and thus taking it longer to burn in. Question is, if less blue takes longer to burn in or if that is regardless of the intensity.

However, there are gey icons on the original bar too, so my intention in first place was to make the bar black, because the grey currently is really ugly...
Changing the icons is no problem (well, I don't think you will get any harmonious color with only red and green though... don't want to get eye cancer ;) ), but I don't know how to change the background of the bar for my 6180? Is it within the "framework-res.apk"? Or is it only within and AOSP ICS build? :D
Anyone knows?

EDIT:
That's great! I just tried to use the apk from OP and it works on my GT-P6810 too!!! :D
I will investigate it though and report back if I find some troubles with this.
Maybe I will create a grey version...

I would ask you the same about the 90% figures you just pulled up.

I understand you only keep your device for 8 months at most but not everyone does, I probably wont keep it more than 8 months when I get the Tab7.7 but Im also worried but it wont stop me from using it :p

A black status bar sounds great, whats RGB color values on the default status bar anyway?
The bar itself has a RGB value of 43/44/46. Just make a screenshot and get the values with a paintapp.
Is there a way to move the status bar to the top?
No way I know of - though I'm not a dev.

@all:
For anyone interested, I changed the main Icons of this theme to grey ones. Unfortunately I don't know how to change the color of the battery icon. Changing the images in this theme didn't change it on screen.
Thanks again for the theme @ssaass! Looks so much nicer now. And just to let you know, there are no problems using it on my GT-P6810 until now.

Well yes the lower the blue intensity the longer it will last. It still burns in though and is not a good idea for static images.

By saying you can safely use red and green I don't mean you can only use red and green. Any combo of those is fine too such as yellow, orange, brown etc. A low intensity brown or yellow could be OK I suppose (like the XDA banner at the top of this page) . I would rather have a less than perfect icon color than a permanently damaged screen, but that is just me I guess.

How are you changing these colors? Maybe just tell us and we could do it on our own.

How about including a totally black status bar?
I think I got you wrong. The bar within this mod actually IS pure black (see my screenshot)! I thought you mean the original bar as it was delivered...

That's easy: extract the apk like a normal zip file (I use 7-zip). Within the extracted folder go to "res/drawable-mdpi" and there you will find all the icons in png format (don't edit .9 files as they are special...). Just edit them as you like. Then open the original apk with (in my case) 7-zip and navigate to "res/drawable-mdpi". Drag and drop your edited files into this folder and replace the original ones.
Now you are ready to push it to system/app. You will get FC's - restart you Tab and it's done.

As already noted, the battery icons within this mod are not the ones used by the system (at least on my 6810), so it will not have an effect if you edit all the 100s icons...
I think we would have to edit framework-res.apk to change the colors of these icons. I didn't try that though.

PS: Why not use hiding the status bar if you are concerned about burning in?

Ok. I have heard that some people are getting alot of FC/app glitch issues after rooted, have you had any issues? I don't want to corrupt or brick the thing.

Also where do you get the .APK from? All of the ones in this post are .ZIP files.

For me it works without any issues. No FC's anywhere. I'm not a heavy user though - but all games, browser, mail and tools I use work as expected.

You can treat the apk like any other zip file - it's just the extension that is renamed. Download it in the first original post or my post if you prefer grey icons instead of blue ones.

All battery PNGs are in "framework-res.apk\res\drawable-mdpi" and are named as "stat_sys_battery_XX.png" and "stat_sys_battery_charge_animXX.png"

from my previous experience in modding framework-res and systemUI the procedure will be like that:
- mod via UOTkitchen the 2 files (with 100 set of icons - incl. charging)
- edit resultant apk's by replacing PNGs with the new desired ones (check also attached zip) - must be 16X32 pixels (should be resized and orientated)
- make a flash-able zip.
- apply in CWM.

Could work, depends by UOTkitchen

I see the "ICS_Status_bar.apk " in your post but as soon as I download it automatically changes to "ICS_Status_bar.zip" I am not sure why. So I just mod the icons, then change the extention to .apk then run it on the tab?

Rename file to .apk then copy file to system/app
Ok so exactly how does this work?

Edit and then copy SystemUI.apk to system/app? Then what? do I need to do something to install? What is it about this ODEX thing? What do I have to do with it? Some say delete some say leave it, I am confused.

It will crash the system until you reboot? Is there a "cleaner" less risky way to do it? If it doesn't work will the tab still be useable or would I need to re-flash the ROM because I can't use the bottom icons?

Is there a way to get a backup of the current default theme in case this one gets screwed up?

Also I need the 6810 version is that a different set or are they both compatible?
