General IDOING UIS7862 with WRX[Updated with initial review]

After a lot of reviews and reading I just ordered a 9" Idoing with CanBus for my 2018 WRX with Harman Kardon. A lot of positive reviews from WRX owners, but not seeing a lot of love(or hate) for the Idoing hear on XDA. It's nearly identical to the Joying, but Joying will not support the HK system in my car.

I'm curious what custom options I have in terms of UI, ROMs, Root,, apps?
I'm guessing from what I read(or lack there of) ROMs are a no go, but what about root and other customization options?

Sorry long time rooter and custom ROM user for android phones and tablets, but total noob to android head units.

I have a Kenwood with wireless android auto in my old car and was going to move it to this one, but absolutely hate Android Auto almost as much as I hate mirrorlink in the stock HU in my WRX(shame on you subaru). Also the kit to install it from crutchfield cost nearly as much as the android unit and canbus shipped from china, so figured i'd take a chance.

If it doesn't work out I'll go with the kenwood, but really hopeful this will be a winner. I spent a lot of time on chat with them and they are extremely responsive to questions(really like live chat) where a question to Joying took 3 days to get a response.

I know there is little chance the 4G module will work in the US(IDoing says it works with tmobile) so expecting to use wifi tether with my phone with native apps and pretend android auto doesn't exist. Other option is put a spare phone with sim permanently connected to USB, but unsure if USB tether will work.

I will keep reading, but any thoughts or pointers are welcome. Just don't tell me to replace my HK system, I know not everyone likes it, but I love it ;-)

I just bought joying Unit for my forester xt with harman kardon. It works perfectly. You need to make sure the wire to power the amp on is in the right location. On my car is the blue wire on the car harness. The harness that came from Joying was wired on the wrong location. This is my second android head unit, and I am very impressed with it. I upgraded from an px5 to this one. I opted for 8 gb of ram and 128 of internal storage.

I bought the head unit for my 2018 WRX from this reseller few months ago.
Xima, it's a lot cheaper, but the unit itself is pretty good. only down side is you need to wire the voltage step down for stock back-up camera.

Do you have the HK audio, if so did this work, did they provide a canbus?

So I managed to get APN setting for verizon to stick, and I ca see the verizon network if I use a replacement mobile network settings like from CWG, however even though it will connect and I have the APN it sitll won't get any mobile data on the verizon network. I'm beginning to think they have it hardcoded in the System to only work with t-mobile. Either that or Verizon is rejecting data requests from the device even tough it lets it connect. I've tried with both true Verizon Sim and an Xfinity Mobile Sim(Both verizon, but different APNs).

Did you ever manage to get the Verizon sim working? Or was that a lost cause?

No I gave up, pretty sure it's blocked in the OS

Anyone have an issue where the default home/launcher app keeps resetting? It never used to do this, I'm hoping its not a sign of RAM going bad or something. Basically I have a default launcher set and sometimes (but not always) when I press the home button it will go to a particular stock UI (I think its UI11). This happens regardless of if I'm using a 3rd party launcher (FCC, Car Launcher, etc.) or one of the stock UI's included with the unit. I have tried clearing caches, and even got the latest update from iDoing (dated February 2022) but neither seemed to fix this issue. Only other thing I can think to try is a factory reset, but I'm not really wanting to do that unless I absolutely have to since I'll have to set everything back up...

Anyone else have an issue with bluetooth contacts showing up without spaces between the first and last name? For example JohnDoe instead of John Doe. They are all in my iPhone correctly, but they show up in the contacts list on the HU without spaces. Not sure if there is anything that can be done about this? Strange thing is I can remember at some point in the past they showed correctly in there, but I'm not sure when/what changed or how to get that back...

Has anyone found out how to change the default ringtone on the Idoing UIS7862? Its one of my biggest complaints about this thing. Other is the darn waze wont stay in dark mode on the AA.

Hey, so I got the noise filter. I'm confused on which wire on the iDoing harness to put this in-line on though. Check my pics. Do you know if the number 15 pin/wire aka the black wire on the harness really the 12v+/batt? To me the black color is throwing me off although I know you can't always trust the colors. I tried to match that wire to the connecting pin on the car harness that it plugs into but the black nor the yellow or red from the iDoing harness seem to go directly to the car's 12v+, so I'm confused.

Current it dose not show the rear camera, i tried to other pin of B3 RCA-Video, but head unit still dose not show rear camera

I ran my mic under the dash and mounted it on top of the steering column ion the instrument cluster. Can't really see it unless you're looking for it. Rarely make calls in the car, but the voice recognition seems ok as long as the music is at reasonable levels.

Sorry to revive the necro thread, but I've been searching for lots of information and can't find out why my mic isn't working. Same (or very similar unit) to yours, in a 2017 WRX STI with HK, canbus installed, everything is working except the mic. I can't get it to pick up anything anywhere.

I made a separate post about it, and was advised to remove the mic and test in a laptop; haven't done it yet due to being busy + very cold weather outside + really don't want to undo my flush clips (they are hard).

I DID go to factory settings and try to enable the mic; no results.

So does yours just 'work'? and are you using the external mic or the one on the HU? Thanks in advance
