if i lock my bootloader, can i unlock it again?

i used the code from motorolla to unlock it...but i'm curious, if i lock the bootloader would i be unable to unlock it again?

would i need to use the unlock code again? or would a simple "fastboot oem unlock" work?

I've wondered that question myself for awhile now. Maybe someone can jump in and help us. Also if I flash bootloader update does it need a new code.
