If you're a Mate 20 owner and not getting the EMUI 9.1 update, set region to China

after numerous fails, here's how I got 9.1 to install OTA

I have a LYA-L09 (single sim) C432 with software prefix ending 238 after changing regions and all manner of things I gave up.

So I downloaded EMUI9 firmware still on V9 but with a prefix of 266 - a more recent version it seems!

I extracted the firmware to a newly created folder named dload on a usb and connected it by OTG to my mate20 and rebooted the phone

while holding Vol + and - until the logo appears it found the update and started installing

when it rebooted i connected to wifi and right away 9.1 was offered to me (downloading it now)

hope this helps some folk, but check your software version to see if a more recent firmware is available and let you enjoy EMUI9.1
Did exactly the same steps as you and it doesn't work. Even the 266 firmware is only for L29 and fails in recovery.

Also pressing Volume + and - does nothing. But nice try.

I know right. They should just push the update out to everyone without complicating things. Could be there strategy to get people to buy more of there devices.

permissions might be another one.

for myself, I wasnt able to get update no matter what, so I backed up my phone first, then did a factory reset, and THEN finally changed all regions to China (in HiCare app as well as the phone settings).

Might not work for everyone but just providing some possible solutions
Holy f*ck, thank you so much for this dude.
I was stuck on .210 for literally MONTHS since they announced the roll-out for 9.1 in the UK and decided to try your advice. It worked!!
If changing regions doesn't work for you, try this guys advice!

The region in phone setting can changed only making a factory reset or can changed in another way?

Like the title says, every website out there was telling me that EMUI 9.1 is available to a plethora of Huawei devices. Needless to say, when I wasn't able to update my Mate 20 Pro through the HiCare app (or any other method), I was frustrated, and contacting Huawei support only came back with a generic response that didn't help at ALL.

I took a wild guess, and changed my region from USA --> China, and voila! Update was instantly available...

So yeah, if you've set your region to USA or any of the other countries China might have a beef with, they will not let you update to 9.1
Hopefully this can save some of you the headache that I had to endure
Hi, thank you very much I had stuck on 9.0.0.200. I have done master reset without the sim card. then I have put hicare in chinese zone and telephone too. I left settings> system> update system and failure tells me that it is updated. I go into hi care and see next to update a red dot and surprise was updated, thank you all for the help.

The incredible thing about this case is that my phone is a Chinese version of the HMA-TL00 and is not updated either. It was configured in European zone. I had to change to China to be able to update

Sorry for the late reply, I'm not entirely sure why resetting the device was a requirement in my case, but I believe it has something to do with caching of some sort (or the Carriers config files that are sent during setup on the mobile network for the first time).
I tried setting my region in HiCare to China, Thailand, etc before hand MULTIPLE times based on numerous recommendations I saw posted both on XDA and Reddit. Doing so did not work for me (even after restarting the device multiple times, removing/changing sims, etc).

It only worked for me after resetting the device, setting it up as new and setting the initial HiCare region to China. Once I did this after the reset I was immediately notified [in settings] of the available update.
It wasn't a straight update to 9.1. In fact it first prompted for an update from 9.0.0.210 > 9.0.0266, once the install process completed I was then immediately notified that an update to 9.1.0.300 was available.
I downloaded and installed that with no problems, and is the current firmware version running on my device.

Hi, I'm going crazy. Why do you think that has only been updated to 9.1.0.123?
I jump directly from 9.0.0.200 to 9.1.0.123.
I have noticed that there is another reference R1P21 that is mine but you all have R2P21.
Will this have any relation?
I also noticed that the security patch was not updated either

Its because Huawei releases updates in 'batches' (based on the exact model you have, i.e. region the phone was bought). Once an update for your model is available your carrier also has to approve the update (for example; here in the UK a few carriers sent the update back to Huawei because they found issues in their testing).

Based on all those factors you may receive updates later (or sooner) than some people, depending on the exact model number and carrier.
Your model number is: HMA-TL00
My model number is: LYA-L09

If HMA-TL00 didn't receive an update post 9.1.0.123 (in another region or for a different carrier, etc) then it is very unlikely you will be able to install a later version without manually flashing. You can check if there is firmware released for your model in another region with HWFWF.

I'm on EE version of LYA-L09 still still stuck on 9.0.0.238.
Tried the above but unfortunately doesn't work.

Dkd you change the region to China from the HiCare app?

Thanks

I don't recall but it was probably around that time - I have been in touch with them via support but they keep saying it is coming. It would be nice to get EMUI 9.1, 10 or released to Huawei AOSP effort. Will keep you posted if anything changes.

Tried VPN (Failed in Costa Rica, China and United Kingdom)
Change location (Failed in Costa Rica, China and United Kingdom)
Waiting.... (praying)

Now that it is past the end of August. You should be able to contact Huawei via the live chat in the HiCare app and ask them to manually "push" the OTA to your device. They will ask for your serial number so be ready with it.

Hope this helps.

You tried without sim card? My 20X updated to the latest version with no sim card present and ok WiFi. This was on initial setup of the device. Meaning I didn't even have a Huawei account setup yet.
