If you're a Mate 20 owner and not getting the EMUI 9.1 update, set region to China

Florida unfortunately.
Actually I put in a Chinese sim card and immediately received update after update! Now I am on 9.1.0.320! You are right, just need Chinese or Singapore sim card and wifi!
I'm already on 9.1.0.320 and didn't need a Chinese sim card.
However, it's worth noting the got all the updates during first time unboxing and setting up , meaning before I had put my T-Mobile USA sim card in the device .

Wondering since I did buy my phone off of Ebay and did NOT perform a factory reset just assumed person did since it was clean at the start, that if I had factory reset the phone before purchasing if that would've helped. lol

Here's a twist in the tale. My cust C 432 UK device on intital bootup ( first boot without sim card ) showed English UK as the first option for language. However after I factory reset a few days later for other reasons, again with no sim present that option was not available, it showed English as first available language on setup screen and no longer English UK !

I'm thinking that the device writes something to itself similar to Samsung csc codes. And I think now if another update is made available , I'll have difficulty in downloading it moving forward.

Hence why sim card from region of origin may be required.

For all the ppl that had purchased a HK/China SIM Card, was your firmware already associated the Asian region (C636)? I'm in Canada, and the previous owner flashed the firmware to 9.0.0.265(C636E10) via FunkyHuawei, and I would like to know if this method will work.

So I was able to obtain a non-active HK/China SIM. However, when I put the SIM into my phone, it didn't give me any fw update. My region was also set to China. Does the SIM have to be active?

No sir, my sim isnt activated. I actually brought this up in my Amazon review as I wanted to see if I could force another update like possibly 10.0 but couldn't.

Had assumed if I could activate my sim I'd set my hicare to China seeing as I can't register due to being in the USA

You guys that are buying foreign sim cards. You buying the sim for carrier that is from the Cust number of your device or just any country?
Example c185 user in USA buys sim from Dubai or Saudi , or c432 in the USA buys sim card from Western Europe country?

If you've followed the steps I assure your missing some. Buy a cheap $9 Singapore simcard off of amazon and watch the updates just fly on in.

Search for my recent post in this thread.
Ok, Thanks Mikey. Haven't tried anything yet as I just did my first FDR after going through the initial setup USA style. Wouldn't let me register so just sat on everything for 10 days or so.
Nothing but this March 2019 security update and that was it. Picked up some info about build# on my unit from huawei CS and was given Central America regions (Panama, Costa Rica...). So maybe using one of those upon initial setup screen again as they come up was my first thought. Maybe my unit that came to me is tied into those regions via build#. But...using that sim suggestion during setup (I have AT&T sim), wondering would it make any difference to your region choice during the setup process with that sim installed?
