In over my head? LS990 to use on Boost Network

Hello everyone, just a quick intro about myself- I used a LG Venice with Boost for 3+ years till I washed it with my pants (but I got it to work! Ask if interested). For a replacement phone, we picked up a LG Stylo, which is great, but I want my own phone now (sharing with wife?! :p ) I absolutely love the new features and camera system, so I started researching the G3 LS990. I can't find a straight solid answer for "migrating" a Sprint phone to it's child's network, Boost. It seemed simple enough, they share the same network, etc. But as I dug deeper, it does not appear it's that simple. In short, some people report features not working, like LTE data or no data at all, sms not working, same with mms.
After a week of researching, I thought even a gamble of $150 +/- $50 for a good used/new G3 wasn't worth it and decided to bite the bullet and buy the G3 from Boost for $330.
INTERESTING PART IS when I went to the Boost store to purchase, I talked with a knowledgeable rep that explained some phones Boost has "are directly from Sprint, just with the Boost UI loaded" (not sure if I'm using terms correctly). "And the G3 is one of them". So the Boost G3 is really a Sprint G3 LS990. So I said "then it's really no different if I get a LS990 from swappa and a new sprint sim/uicc and activate it" "Right, and load Boost ...UI (?)... on it" I can't seem to find success stories of using a LS990 on Boost (sms, mms, LTE all working).

Has anyone had success with a Sprint to Boost G3 LS990?

I'm pretty techie, I just haven't played with phones this deep before, but am willing to give it a try, I'd just like to know it's possible. I've never rooted a phone ( would love to try! But not right now unless it's a 90% success for sure!)

Any advice, input, direction would be most appreciated. I'm really excited to finally take a step into this.

Thank you,
Chris

You can activate it on Boost mobile directly without any modifications! I just did it myself last month. It's still not showing up on the byosd page as a phone that is allowed but they should still activate it anyways. Just call their 1800 number and speak to an agent and tell them you want to re-sku a phone and they will ask you for the info on the back of the phone. Some of the customer service reps don't know how so if they can't just hang up and try again with another rep. I purchased mine from someone on craigslist and didn't even have to get a new sim for it to work, just as long as it's been taken off the original owner's plan and has a good esn. They will walk you through the whole activation process and after that everything should be golden (LTE, MMS, Voice, Texts). If you need any help just let me know :good:

Boost just added the lg g3 to the bring your own sprint phone list. Anyone know the difference between the sprint rom and the boost rom? Is it only the logos? Probably not worth switching? Anyone know if this sprint phone will do ota updates on boost? I couldn't care less about the boost zone or any of those boost programs.

Thank you very much for your reply, malvarez92 and 6th_hookah!

I did not get a g3, but I didn't want to be d-bag and not reply. I instead got a flex 2 from boost (LS996, $279.99 ). I never got to touch a g3, but I did play with as many phones as I could find, and I'm super happy with the flex2. Though I didn't get the g3, this was still very helpful and it's info for others.

I have Sprint service currently. How do I move my LG G3 to Boost?

Since my LG G3 has active Sprint service, does that mean I need to cancel my service with Sprint before I move to Boost? I have already verified with Sprint that I do not owe anything on my phone, it is mine now, and my current billing cycle is paid for so cancelling will not be a problem. Once I cancel service, do I still need to do the re-skuing? I think the Boost dealer mentioned this procedure to me and said he could do it for me. We tried starting the process but whoever he was dealing with on the line at Boost support center said it could not be done, possibly because it was still active with Sprint. I appreciate your help with this.
