Hey, @az_biker. You should check out screebl. Its an app that keeps the screen on based on position so it allows you to keep the screen on while reading an article but then will abide by the screen timeout settings when laying on a table or in your pocket. Using this app (for years now) has allowed me to keep my screen timeout set to 15sec while never having to worry about the screen shutting off while I'm using the phone.

Here's a link to the app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.keyes.screebl.lite

That sounds like a great app, thanks for the heads up!

My N3 just went 1day 20hrs with 7hrs screen on.

LTE on full time

GPS on

Flux auto bright

Dark theme

Heavily debloated...1.2gb of ram usage after days of up time

No power save mode

No apps to monitor usage and battery(they use more battery imo)

Post those screens and your usage.

Almost 2 days of battery, avg 3.5 hrs each day. That boils down to about 1 hr 45 min sot per 11 hrs. That's not a lot of use. My results avg 1 hr 20 min sot per 3.5 hrs.

Another way to look at it is you got about 20% use per hr of batt life, I got about 40%.

These comparisons would suggest that incorporating the listed batt saving steps roughly doubles the usage per hour.

What ROM/config are you using as well? I have to restart my phone every 3-4 days because it won't clear out RAM. At that point the launcher reloads every time you click home, Viper4Android crashes constantly when playing music, its slow, etc.

I did not take a screen shot...not really that deep. I believe my rep is good enough that you can take my word on it. Besides my post was not implying that my battery life is better then yours. :)

Beans build 5...then I went a step further debloating it. I have logged 198hrs up time before a reboot and never went over 1.23gb of ram used.

Wasn't disputing your report, or your rep and figured if you took the time to post your results you'd have taken a screen. If you've been around long enough you know the old saying "no screenie, didn't happen"... it's much more reliable to show someone else's results than to say "a user told me...."

I was hoping to include your screens and settings in this thread as a resource for users on the same Rom or with similar usage habits.

Thanks for your input.

I will take one next round! I did not think my battery life was anything out of the ordinary, thats why I did not bother with the screen shots. I will say the biggest battery killer on this phone is wifi, bluetooth, and of course wifi tethering. Also I froze all uneccessary programs that constantly run in back ground. Went from what 40 apps running in back ground stock to only 16. That there made a world of difference in the speed and battery life. I guess samsung felt that with 3gb of ram they might as well go ahead and load it down with even more bullsheet. By the way I thought you did a great job with the OP!!

Thanks for OP compliment. .. I think it'd be great if you'd put together a list of all the apps you froze, and your other battery saving settings.

This isn't a thread for individual boasting per se, it's a place to share what works for different users, and each of us can customize our battery saving settings using the tips others share here.

Are there any tests to see if you have a bad battery? My phone is dying more than normal these days. I have been rooting and flashing things all week and haven't got a lot of charge cycles on it but still. Just wondering if it's a bad battery or something of that nature.

I can only imagine there's an app to test batt health. I know "Device Info" by Beanstown106 in play store has a battery tab that shows battery health. It's a start.

I'd say if you run batt down to 10%, charge to 100%, use normal (not heavy or intense) and don't get 12 or more hrs unplugged before hitting 5%, then maybe think about faulty batt, maybe a warranty batt swap in vzw store?

Alright here's my latest on Eclipse. I do have sync for gmail, google+,Google drive, play movies off. Pretty much all but browser sync and app data is left on. Brightness is at 50% and I used titanium to freeze the apps I don't use along with Greenify to hibernate the battery suckers. This is mostly wifi with around 6 to 7 hrs 4g.

Google services is high due to streaming Escape Plan on Chromecast.

I always check out the battery saving posts more for my own curiosity than anything, but as long as my phone makes it through an entire day I'm all set.

Phones like the Note 3 have finally gotten to the point where they can get through an entire day WITHOUT resorting to extreme measures like the ones listed here.

It used to drive me nuts to buy a smart phone with tons of cool features (my first smart phone was an XV6700 Apache VZ phone) and then have to turn half of them off so I wouldn't be looking for a charger at lunch time. I have GPS on at all times, weather updating every 30 minutes, GMAIL & Facebook on push, (Blue-tooth always on for my Galaxy gear watch) etc etc etc and my N3 still EASILY makes it through a very long work day (why anybody needs a 30+ hour battery life is beyond me, I have no problem whatever charging it each night).

I have done nothing to save battery other than use a custom ROM (just an easy way to not have a ton of apps running in the BG at all times) & no-brainer type things like running the brightness at 50% with a 30 second time out.

I normally have things on and use it through the week like the smartphone I paid for and yes its awesome to get through a full day without charging. My test was to see how far I could stretch screen time. But I'm back to normal use now.

Rather than troll threads looking for somewhere to make yourself feel important, you should remember that not everyone is a supreme expert like you and some new users are discouraged with less than expected battery life from a new device.

Your need to feel superior to those who enjoy testing and pushing their devices to the max, is one of the main problems in forums like XDA.

As stated in the OP, these are suggested settings IF maximum battery life is your goal. IF you watch tons of videos, and stay connected to all your social media multiple times per hour, THESE settings are not for you.

It's called choice, some users enjoy maximizing battery life, some enjoy running every feature at full potential... Condescending to people who are taking the time to offer help others tells a lot about a person's character.

I see threads all the time that are useless for the way I run my device, I do the crazy thing and ignore them or continue on to the next thread.

You should try it some time.
