06 Apr 2014: I won't add any further tester or testing requests for apps as obviously this does not work anymore. Not closing the thread now, hoping for ideas how to make this idea of free app testing for devs working again.
26 Mar 2014: Do we need another thread cleaning? Discuss!
12 Jan 2014: All XDA internal links of the first two posts should be encrypted now (We want HTTPS on XDA!).

24 Oct 2013: Right now there are only two apps in the testing queue. Developers, you can send us more apps for testing!
12 Oct 2013: Removed former testers in two new posts which are linked down below.
09 Oct 2013: Only a few people would be still available at the moment. I'll close this cut procedure in the next few days. Everybody who still is available as a tester, please post in thread or write PM. Thanks.
25 Sep 2013: I make a cut. Read more about this plan.
28 Jul 2013: I added a list with the prior testers. If you want to be removed from this list, just let me know. Check it out it's down below and fortunately almost empty.

Thanks to our prior testers: post #1, post #2

Hello developers,

this is a index about XDA members, who wants to test your apps, especially alpha or beta versions. Post your request in the thread, description below. You also can join the XDA Android App Testers (started by @antzvill).

Also the XDA community offers following free services: App Translators Index, List of themers and designers as well as Community help with marketing.

Users: Developers need you. Send me a PM and I will add you to this index. Thank you!
1. Send me a PM with your device(s) on which you want to test apps. Name it as exactly as possible (e.g. Samsung Galaxy GT-I9250 GSM Maguro)
2. Verify my entry and subscribe to the thread to get the latest news and app test requests.
3. If there is a request for testing an app, do so. If you find new apps, you can also post it into this thread. Please report to the app developers thread and let him know you like the development by saying thank you, hit their THANKS button and/or donate or buy the paid version of the app.
Also, if the app already is on Google Play, don't rate it negative or one star or so. If you have problems, contact the developer(s), if everything is fine, you can rate several stars. Be fair, cause as you know, this is still in development.

Developers: You need app testers
1. Post a little description incl. your wish where to focus testing (maybe a special function or on selected devices eg tablets) of your app and the link to your XDA thread. Be sure you have an active XDA thread, which can be listed in the App Testing Collection (take a look down below).
2. Thread subscribers can see your app test request quickly, test your app and report to your thread. Developers, due to I saw this several times, be fair and do not click THANKS buttons only for positive response. This is contra productive.
3. On this point, after the tests, please be kind and write something in this thread like "well done, we created the perfect app" ;)

App testing can be dangerous. Protect your device!
Some apps we are testing here could contain malicious code. Most of the apps might be cool, but be careful with those other apps. Apps from Google Play should be safer to use, but there is no guarantee. And app installation with apk files on our smartphones/tablets or exe files on our desktops/notebooks... you'll never know.

We can test the apps before we install them.

Virustotal
Upload your suspicious files up to 32 MB and let Virustotal test it with more than 40 virus scanners.

Anubis: Analyzing Unknown Binaries
Upload your suspicious files up to 8 MB, Windows files or even Android apk files.

Comodo Instant Malware Analysis
Upload your suspicious executable files to run them in a online virtual environment.

It is also good to use a virus scanner app for Android. You'll find plenty of antivirus on Google Play.

App Testing Collection

This collection is currently maintained by myself. If anyone wants to be in charge, let me know.
In this collection, you can find all current app testing request. Choose your app testing project here.

As you can see, this is the Android general section. so most users are still kinda new to Android or not really that proficient yet. So, my suggestion is that why not make the threads at the section of the device that you wanted to support?

I was asking a forum moderator before starting this thread. He said, I should use this forum for this thread - that's how I did it.

Some developers don't really care if the app is for device x or y, should work on all devices. And that's the point to make one big list of users, accessible for all developers. Well, we'll see, if this works. Hopefully it does, cause I want to get new software, even betas :D

As you can see, its has already been two days. my personal suggestion is that you try to find some users and developers(new developers would be better in general) on your own and get them to test the app and put a link back to here so that you can gain more publicity

Your suggestion might be a good way to keep this list going on. Good idea.

Thanks, added you. :)

Does anybody know if there is a difference or what the difference between "Samsung Galaxy S2 Epic 4G Touch" and "Samsung Galaxy S2 (SGH-T989)" is?

We don't have a light on the top right and we have white light instead of purplish on the bottom

Also we have different specs

Love the idea.. Count me in :)
I currently have Galaxy Note, Galaxy W & Galaxy Tab (P1000)

As android developer I know it's hard to fix bugs that only occurred on specific device and you don't have that device.
And most personal products won't have vary testing devices.

I think this thread can be the place where people that love to be beta testers help xda developers, and xda developers help each other on testing. So application released will have higher quality. Less time on bugs, more time for new features.

I think this thread is a great idea.
Thanks to xda my device is still alive. having a basic knowledge of how computers and programs work and what time creating software can consume, i am thankful for what the devs at xda do.
I think, giving the devs an easy way to test their software, is a good way for those of us who want to thank the devs, but can't afford to donate to all of them.
I see a lot of potential in this topic. Maybe someday xda will even have an official organized pool of testers, who knows.

Besides testers per device, i would suggest a list for people, who want to help translating.

At the moment, i have close to no internet access at all, but i'm following this thread and as soon as my situation changes, i plan on contacting you, so i can be added to the list.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate your support. :good:

jimmod, if you have new apps, please post your test request into this thread.
Broken303, the translating thread would be the next level after this app testing thread, good idea.

Thank you, hope to hear from you soon. :)

Me brainless, forgot: The translating thread, which is a pretty good idea for bringing the apps to all users... go for it :good:
Open a thread. I have not the time to control and keep up a next one, but I will offer you help, if needed and welcome. This two threads would be very welcome for the devs new apps, I guess.

Hope you read this reply :)

    App Testing Collection

Layout and idea by @BurnHard from the App Translation Collection.

    Information
Apps testing requests will be listed in here for at least 6 weeks. This is a very long time to test the apps. Afterwards they are moved to the completed app tests section. If a developer needs further tests, just post an update of your request in the thread. Any suggestions, comments or I forgot your request? Drop me a message.

    Developers
Just post your app test requests with all details you see on those requests down below. Think about the testers. For reporting you should thank the testers (eg. full version for free if possible, name them in the about or credits menu or at least klick on the "THANKS" button). If your app is fine enough, let me know, so I can remove your request from here.

    Tester
If you are testing apps, do it properly and if you do so, you can expect the thanks of the developers and all users. Be exact on reporting anything.

Hey guys. The news about this thread appeared on the XDA portal this night when I was sleeping like a baby. I recognized this happening (I am really surprised and delighted) since I am at work. It will take about 9 hours till I am back at home. I will answer to all of your PMs (currently over 70 unread) and forum posts, but give me the time, be patient. Thank you.
    3
According to this video article posted, I am duplicating efforts already exerted by another. Rather than cut into his efforts to fulfill this, and try to compete with an already existing and established product, this project has been discontinued.

Ok, so test PM works. Your auto-sender states not to reply ;)

    MD

That's good. And you could have sent me a PM directly. Since it's out in the open now, I figured I'd break down the App Portal and how I envision seeing it work once it's finished:

In order to complete account setup on the App Portal, you must provide your XDA-Developers forum username (so we can send you notices for things). This will allow us to tightly integrate the AP with XDA as it's parent.

    For everyone:
You each have a score, for testers, just a test score, for developers, a developer score (and if you participate in testing, a testing score as well). These scores will be used to give your projects priorities as well as people priorities for joining tests. This will allow for the best testers to be able to participate where they choose because they provide valuable feedback and otherwise participate frequently (seating for each public project is still first come first serve). For developers this will mean they get the best testers available for their private projects, and should they be active developers too by responding to feature requests in a timely manner as well as the cumulative activity of their projects (updates to the project, new beta code test uploads/etc) will mean they become more prevalent as well for both private and public projects. The scoring system should allow for an extremely active tester and/or developer to quickly become recognized for their contributions and provide them greater opportunities to participate, and leave the occasional tester with a lower score presenting them with projects they may be interested in that still have open seating.

    For testers:
Once you sign up (and verify your account with the link PM'd to you to verify your XDA username), you'll be presented with the public beta projects that developers have posted for people with compatible devices compared to the devices you have registered on your account (this will remain an 'honor system' for now as I cannot verify any of this information).
Testers will also be able to opt-in for private (read: NDA) alpha/beta invites, for when a Dev creates a new project on the AP, they can choose to have it private. Anyone with a compatible device that has opted into the private service will receive an invite via PM to join the test pool for private projects should their tester score be high.
Testers will be periodically PM'd with links that take them back to the AP to provide a review of the applications they are testing and provide the developer with anonymous feedback. Repeated failures to submit reviews of the applications you are testing will lower your tester score (and possibly get you removed from the project altogether), thus making you less likely to be invited to any private projects.

    For developers:
You do the same sign up (and verification of XDA username), you'll be able to post a project which you are working on almost immediately.
Upon creating a project, you can select your device pool, the maximum number of testers you wish to have participating, and whether the project is public or private. Should you select private, it will not be listed on the website and will send private invites to people with qualifying devices until the maximum number of testers has been reached. BE AWARE: Private application tests do NOT shield your XDA username from testers, don't think this makes the entire thing anonymous, only the testers are!
You will be able to customize some of your questions for the reviews that are being sent out, nothing personally identifiable shall be requested.
Should you experience trouble with any individual user, you will be able to remove them from your test, causing them to lose a number of points comparative to your developer ranking points. Further, when you receive helpful feedback, you will be able to award extra points to the tester for the valuable assistance.

The greater the interaction between developers and testers, the higher everyone's rankings go, this way we can keep an eye on ineffective testers and restrict them, and award the helpful and active testers with more testing opportunities. There will be report buttons/links everywhere so as we define the rules and regulations, we can quickly catch and correct for misbehavior using something that is otherwise supposed to be supremely helpful!
