Flash only Kenzo ROM? when flashing rom's zip, all are being flashed including modems right? (just asking)If you flash only Kenzo Rom, you don't need to flash Kate modem.
you need to flash Kate modem only if you have flashed a Kenzo firmware (who contains also Kenzo modem).
However, you can fin easily already made Kate firmwares, so you only need to flash it instead of a Kenzo firmware (and only the first time you flash a custom ROM, and only if your FP/modem/GPS is not working).
I have absolutely no clue about the firmwaresIt's good to see all the rom links in just one thread. Saves lots of time
Good work @Try it or die
And one more suggestions,
Please add all the firmwares link.
There are so many firmwares and its hard to search them
Thanks. Keep updating
Please read slowly and carefully: Ethan Chen cannot flash any custom roms, that's not related to firmware, but that's because he's using TWRP ZCX kate.
An other solution is to edit the script of the custom rom and replace kenzo by kate, but it's much simpler to flash TWRP ZCX for kenzo.
BTW, I also have a kate, using TWRP ZCX kenzo, and custom rom.
Okay, super simplified explanation here.Hi,
I'm also new to this, and I didnt understand what you said:
1.what is the difference between rom and firmware? And what should I use if I have kate?
2.why doesnt twrp for kate work when flashing kenzo rom?
But apart from the extra frequency in the modem, the rest of the hardware for kate and kenzo is pretty much identical. Hence, (most) roms for kenzo work on kate as well.
2. Some TWRPs for Kenzo dont work with Kenzo roms
Actually, the recovery (TWRP) partition of a phone is often customised for every device. Then, this is compounded by the large number or TWRP versions. It is pretty much hit and miss, I have found. A TWRP that was not working for me in Marshmallow started working after it was updated for N. Honestly no idea.
If you meant flashing MiUI Kenzo roms with kate TWRP, then well, MiUI versions are hardware specific and will cause problems. They also contain the firmware built-in. In fact, most of the firmwares for the kenzo are extracted files from the MiUI Roms.
Unless you do a full format or go to miui and back to a custom rom, you need to flash the firmware just once. Before or after the rom does not matter, as long as you do it before you reboot. Thanks man!!
Thats a very good guide![]()
Now that I understand the theory, what does it mean about the actual thing?
I have a brand new kate, and I want a new rom, like CM for example.
Do I need to flash the firmware before, or just the rom itself is enough?
But which firmware? My phone is Kate. Is the firmware that came with the phone is not good?Unless you do a full format or go to miui and back to a custom rom, you need to flash the firmware just once. Before or after the rom does not matter, as long as you do it before you reboot.
The op has some info on how to flash kenzo roms on kate, and there are some guides on the mi forum too.
Its not about good or bad. Its what will work for your phone. Think of the firmware as a driver for your phone's antenna. Just like an nvidia driver wont work for an amd card, kenzo firmwares wont work on a kate. But other software including the os, in this case the rom, works fine. But which firmware? My phone is Kate. Where can I found these guides?
That's exactly what I'm asking:Its not about good or bad. Its what will work for your phone. Think of the firmware as a driver for your phone's antenna. Just like an nvidia driver wont work for an amd card, kenzo firmwares wont work on a kate. But other software including the os, in this case the rom, works fine.
I would recommend read the op, last part is about kate firmware. You can search xda and the en.miui forum for more guides too. Its just the first time that is hard. Once you have successfully flashed a rom, you will probably be trying out new ones every 2 weeks.![]()
You can locate Kate firmwares by searching for Kate Radios. But ofc, you will probably end up with Katy Perry videos. That's exactly what I'm asking:
My phone is Kate, so I can't flash the developers firmware (like on CM, where ther'es a spesific firmware that needs to be flashed), because like you said, it not compatible.
So, should I just flash the rom on the original firmware that came with the phone?![]()
I read the 2 guides:You can locate Kate firmwares by searching for Kate Radios. But ofc, you will probably end up with Katy Perry videos.
This site has a guide for flashing marshmallow roms, CM13 to be precise. Remember that the CM13 firmware (or radios) are meant to work for AOSP as well. For Nougat, it will be CM14 or CM14.1 depending on wheter the rom is Nougat 7.0 or 7.1.x. Try and understand what each step is doing before you begin downloading and doing it yourself.
Here is another guide. The OP is not a native english speaker, but its quite decent.
1. IMEI is basically the EFS partition which you will see in TWRP. You can back it up for sure, but flashing roms rarely messes it up. If you do mess it up, there are guides on XDA to reset them. There are several guides on the miui forums too. I have never had problems with the EFS partition when flashing a rom, and I flash/switch roms approx 2 times a month. But I did experiment to see what happens if you switch the IMEI numbers for the two SIM slots. The phone just kept working normally, much to my surprise. Not really sure how it is encoded or used.I read the 2 guides:
1. Do I need to backup my IMEI? No one said that before...
2. The developer firmware for kate is 7.2.16 and the stable is V8.1.3.0. Does that make sense?
