[INDEX] Samsung Galaxy Express GT-I8730

I tried Shabbypenguin's recovery back in early May, but I was stuck at the "RECOVERY BOOTING..." screen. I left it like that for like 15 minutes and nothing happened. Also there is no "install-recovery.sh" file.
Is that supposed to happen?

Sorry if it's not the right place but I couldn't find any better place!
I used to root my phone using motochopper. but today I updated my phone to latest version ZHAMG2 and from then on I can't root my phone!
neither motochopper nor unlockroot methods work!
any one knows a solution?

If X-plore, ES File Explorer, and Root Explorer count as quality apps, then yes. I am rooted, I can su from the terminal, I can remount partitions as rw or ro, so that's another yes.

You mean I need to use the .tar.md5 file and not the odin oneclick?

guys, please test this cwm its from s4 mini wich have identical chipset and i mean it, Qualcomm MSM8930 Snapdragon 400 1.7 Ghz Krait and adreno 305, maybe in future we can look into s4 mini sources and build a kernel with OC
i can't test this because my laptop HDD is burned, only next week i will buy a new one.

1. Turn off the phone.
2. Press and hold home, volume down and power. Download screen should appear.
3. Connect USB cable, and press volume up.
4. Start Odin, uncheck "F. Reset Time", and then click PDA button.
5. Select "recovery-clockwork-6.0.3.5-serranoltexx.tar.md5" file that you previously extracted, and press Start button. The phone will reboot when finished.

But Petraru... Can I clarify is tis CWM created by some dev frm S4 Mini n is it tested n working on the S4 Mini first. It will b gd also if u can advice on how to revert to stock recovery for our i8730 if tis fails... Thanks for everything! Actually I had the idea long ago of using the tools n advantage of S4 Mini during the development of our device haha. I planned to mention tis later on but haha since u mentioned it!

True... I understand reflash the rom will be a sure work solution. But ya, upon flashing firmware via Odin, it will eventually erase the flash mem, n tis includes the data too. So is there a stock recovery tht can b flash thru Odin too?

P.S: Thanks for the info... I'll test it when I'm free and upon dl-ed the stock SG firmware frm Sammobile first. Yeah go Express!

if you uncheck F Reset will not wipe data
i will test this in 2 day after my HDD arrives

Works, but not perfectly!!
Comes up with a blue screen and the options don't show completely!!

you can't, only if you root your device and install folder mount or directory bind to move the data

hey guys, i have tested many recoverys (even from htc one sv) and nothing works so there is no workaround for this, i will have to set up ubuntu and build CWM or TWRP from source.
i attached the stock recovery for i8730 in case u test other recoveryes, now you can revert to stock easy without having to flash the whole stock firmware.
extract the zip file, and flash this with odin

Anyone can help me on how to open up the recovery.img file to see the contents further inside? Cos I wanna try mixing some display related files frm the serranoltexx CWM 6.0.3.5 with the ones frm stock recovery hope it work. I dumped the stock recovery out via an app called Flashify btw... I done plenty of search on the web n I can't get a tool frm Windows platform. I done some search on XDA too but the process is complicated with some linux commands but required a Linux OS. Thanks!

Hey guys, if u wanna flash back to stock recovery while work by petratu is in progress this is an alternate method to do it without using Odin... But then, you must make sure your device is able to be powered-up nicely... It's a great tweak I feel myself...

1. Download Flashify from Play Store or from here: http://dl.papktop.com/2013/07/Flashify_for_root_users_1_0_5_1.apk and install APK on device.

2. Download the stock recovery for i8730 from here to device at Sdcard0/flashify-backup/recovery folder:

3. [Root is definitely required] Run the app Flashify and go to the Backup/Restore. There will list out your current kernel n recovery type. Go to Restore Recovery and select the downloaded one.

4. Press 'Yup!' and the flash is done perfectly! Stock recovery is back now too! You can now press Vol Up + Power button to enter back stock recovery. Enjoy! Cheers!
