Get whatever version you currently have from SamMobile.com, flash through Odin, then update through Kies.

Or, if you want to do it the hard way, undo every single modification you made to the system (especially the /system folder) then update through Kies.

Looks like gonna be a lot of work.

Because flashing a new stock rom via odin will wipe data, google account etc in short word factory reset isnt it. To do that im gonna have to backup all my apps etc first. a lot of work o_O

Im just gonna skip this update ha ha.

Well, there is a way to flash just the system partition and not have to wipe data, but it requires Linux and you still have to download the full ROM Odin file. :)

Oh, and you can do OTA's if you do that.
You have to root again, though :-/

(if you do choose to get an OTA, please don't install immediately after downloading and extract the zip for use to examine)

Source-built CWM for Expressltexx

Here is my CWM for the GT-I8730: http://d-h.st/Oab
Compiled from CM10.1 source, 6.0.3.7 version. :) I made some changes, for example black background, white text and other stuff. Installing from external SD doesn't work, so you have two options: Install zip from adb sideload, or put your zip onto your internal SD. :)

Thanks @szezso. Successfully installed with Flashify and made back up. Think @jjchico and @aureljarad know how to fix Warning: no file_contexts message. Does not effect function. Looking forward to CM but will wait patiently.

That'll be fixed by using at least 4.2.2. ;)

While we wait for our cm, if you want to have some fun, go to settings about phone, click on Android version three times fast and see what happens. Then tap jellybean, then tap screen, then have fun with all the floating jellybeans

How to root GT-I8730T?

Thanks for the informative forum!

I've just bought a GT-I8730T - has anyone successfully rooted this? @w1040?

If so, how?

I've tried Motochopper (error message: failed) and Framaroot - Gandalf (error message: failed). I'm wondering if a recent upgrade to the firmware has made it ineligible for root - the build number is JZO54K.I8730TDUAML1.
