Off topic: Are you able to use the personal wifi hotspot built into android phones without paying for a tethering plan with Vodafone uk?

I will have a 750mb data plan included in my monthly tariff.

Thanks

How is everyone who has ordered on Voda going to cope with the Data cap.

One or two of those movies from the sense movie store and you'll go over your allowance and get charged.

Their small allowance is whats holding me back from ordering from Voda.

It's called WiFi. I'm not daft enough to download movies via my data connection.

Most networks have a data cap unless you go with 'three all you can eat plan'. I am coming to the end of an 18 month contract and only had 500mb per month, which I managed fine on, as I used wifi most of the time.

Vodafone offer tendering addons. This makes me think that WiFi hotspot will be available on Vodafone android devices (else how would they sell the add-on packages). There is also no way they can detect teathering use, except by looking for PC specific traffic like Windows update.

Sent from my HTC Legend using XDA App

I would only use it for my iPad occasionally, which is great if it just comes out of my monthly allowance. I cannot justify paying for a tethering plan for occasional use.

Thanks for the info.

I saw the 'Three' advert on the London Tube., basically it's

The One Plan - SIM Only gives you:
2000 minutes (anytime, any network)
5000 texts
All-you-can-eat Data (no fair use, no cap...completely unlimited)
5000 Three-to-Three minutes
Voicemail

(Three use t-mobile's network system, so the signal should be alright)

Sounds pretty good, and their website says they're getting the Sensation soon.

I'm currently on T-mobile and finished my contract last year, so got £25 discount from my contract and 10gb internet cap, decided not to get a new phone then, so i can upgrade to Sensation for free with t-mob.

Just can't decide what to do though. Vodafone aren't really very good from experience and their internet policy is REALLY bad. They will charge you per megabyte when you go over. That's always a good thing about tmob, they don't charge, they just speed limit.

Really looking forward to my Sensation now. Best thing is, mine was a free upgrade :D Hehe.

Now my girlfriend has my old HD2 running Android, got my Desire HD and soon a Sensation to play with :D Can't wait!

Just really hope we can work to get S-OFF on it soon!

In fact, just watched a hands on with the Sensation, and the movies on HTC Watch are set to download on WiFi ONLY so you don't exceed your cap!

Three use their own network, which is really good now. They won't be getting the phone until next month sometime. Their 'all you can eat' data plan will be £40 per month minimum with the phone.

I would never go with t-mobile again. Crap IMO. Orange have been ok for me, but not impressed with their data speeds. O2 and Three are good in my experience.

Vodafone are the only network I have never been with so far, so am hoping I won't be disappointed.

Vodafone are good mate. I have been with them for a few years now, and never had any problems with them.

An occasional billing mistake, with an overcharge, but always been able to revert it, and get the credit back. Was also my own fault for being stupid with my bill ;)

Good as far as I can tell mate :)

Never really tested it properly ;)

I use my WiFi when I'm at home of course, and out and about feels good.

Update: Test data from Speedtest:

Ping: 134ms
Download: 2314 kbps
Upload: 2273 kbps

In in Glasgow, that's using a server in Aberdeen to test. I do get full H signal here, pretty much in the middle of Glasgow.

I'm with O2 right now and they are rubbish. I've been with them almost two years and I'm looking to leave.

I have very little coverage in my house and I find them to be pretty poor for data in general.

Even worse I have found that they have network capacity issues where even with perfect coverage mhy phone will ring twice or three times before going to voicemail while the person calling will hear it ring twice or three times as long.

Calls will often go straight to voicemail or the caller will be told that the call cannot be connected and there will be no offer of voicemail. It's worth saying again that the voice problems I just outlined have nothing to do with coverage or signal strength or device because I experience them in areas with perfect coverage and using multiple devices. Other people with different devices also experience the same problems.

It's unfortunate because I have a great SIM Only deal with O2 right now.

I was on T-Mobile before O2 and while they too have poor coverage in my house they were okay in many other places ... except for while travelling when I noticed that they had an issue with a number of other networks when it came to receiving SMS messages. I talked to T-Mobile at length and they didn't have a clue about how to investigate the problem.

So I got a Vodafone PAYG SIM to test and I have had no problems. I'm getting a Three and an Orange SIM sent to me and I'll do some testing with those before making the jump. I was on Orange a long time ago and I never had any problems but that was before the rise of Smartphones.

If you aren't sure just get a free SIM sent to you and do a test on that network for a few days.

The reason I left O2 for Orange is because their customer services went completely downhill and I was unable to get through for days to try and upgrade, so I thought F**k it and I cancelled. Never had any probs with coverage or data speeds though.

Have tried a Voda sim in my 'non' smartphone as my iPhone is locked, and i got a 3g signal indoors :)

I think it all depends on where you live and what areas you visit most as to what network will work best for you.

T-mobile happened to be the worst for me lol.

T-Mobile customer services messed me around on a upgrade and that was the last straw for me so I moved to O2, who were much better for travel.
