So I gave up on the RAC locked RS988.

I bought an H830 and tried the TOT root.......I am stuck in a Boot failure Loop "Sig mismatch".

People say if you get this to flash stock, but LGUP gives me a rollback error when I try the Mar 04 10A TOT that is listed here in the forums.

I think I was running 10D......I think. I am an idiot not to have looked. Could someone please help me with a link to a full stock 10D TOT ? or any other advise?

sounds like you flashed it before actually unlocking the bootloader... which would give you the error you're seeing.

flash 10D KDZ in tmobile g5 development subforum.. no need for TOT.

After the flash of v20a I would like to change my bootanimation and make some changes in my build.prop.
But it's not possible because the system partition is read only and it's not possible for me to change.
For this reason the use of faster GPS is not possible
Any help for this?

Regards

Hi all, I'm about to get a G5 and I'd really like the dual sim but an unlocked bootloader and root is even more important to me. After reading through this thread, it seems as though it is not possible to unlock the bootloader on the h860 model, but I noticed a few people mentioning that they were attempting the .TOT exploit used on the h830 version. Is it possible using this technique or is it a no-go? If it isn't possible, I'd probably just go with the h850. Thanks in advance! :D

Buy an H850(international). The H830 is also unlockable...but only with a custom TOT. For full LG Official support etc go with an H850 variant.

H860 has no public bootloader unlock as of the exact moment. But to predict the future is kinda hard. nothing is impossible.
But currently there are no public methods to unlock any of the locked G5 devices. So as of today, only EU H850 and USA H830 can be unlocked.

Thanks, y'all. I will primarily be attempting to use the device for 4G LTE on the AT&T network in the US. I believe my account is already equipped for 4G LTE since I've been using the Samsung S5 AT&T variant. It looks like the AT&T variant of the G5 has a few additional LTE bands. Are there any differences between the H830 and the H850 in terms of LTE support? They look about the same but I want to maximize my ability to take advantage of network speeds as well.

Any thoughts? All network-oriented things being equal I'd go with the H850 simply due to the straightforwardness of using the bootloader unlock tool.

as the network list in the OP shows... H850 has all the same LTE bands as the H830.. plus more.
Only benefit H830 would have is wifi/lte calling while on tmobile... but yore using AT&T so doesn't even matter.

I'd suggest getting the H850. On top of more LTE bands.. you also avoid the hassle of trying to unlock the H830 sim card.. plus H830 fastboot is "broken" so it's a bit more of a process getting TWRP going.

Just be sure to get a European H850.. and not a H850TR or a H850 Asian variant etc. Only the European H850 can be bootloader unlocked.

Now that Nougat is out for the H830, has anyone successfully updated and rooted it using this guide? Or is it even possible? I want to but I'm afraid of anti rollback again...

Hi,

I'm looking for a way to root the 850 20a without twrp.
Does anyone know a way to simply root, without changing the recovery?!

Thx
Dirk

Well you could try to flash twrp, root and then flash the stock recovery.img after that for 20a. Didn't tried it but it could work.

Hi,

that wass a missunderstanding. I try to avoid twrp because I'm not willing to wipe my phone for having a recovery to go for root.
I'm looking for a way just to root the phone.

Thx anyway!

Yeah, there's no currently known or available exploit that gives you root without significant interventions which will require wiping.

EDIT: Actually I don't know dirtycow works specifically, so that's an exploit, but I don't think it can be used to give root only.

I used TWRP to flash the N 7.0 zip but now Root Checker says "Sorry! Root access is not properly installed on this device. Also TWRP Manager will not work anymore. How to I get root access back? I do not want to try and rebooting back into TWRP as I fear it will factor reset my phone instead.

After the new flash of n7.0 you have to reinstall the twrp following the proper thread. After twrp flash boot in recovery or you will loose it again, format data to get rw permissions for the recovery, than flash latest supersu.zip that could be the 2.79.

I read through all the threads here on xda but non really give step by step... reading something about dirtycow and install from linux terminal... but nothing that looked like an easy to follow step by step guide?

It was difficult for me too. Now i know jow to do and it's ok, but I agree to your point of view. I made in this way: flash of the latest twrp, shutted down removing the battery, turn on with vol- plus power button, when i saw lg logo i leaved only the power button for a sec, then pushed again, i choosed two times yes to the following questions, wiped data when twrp booted to get rw permissions for the recovery, rebooted in twrp from the options of the recovery itself, flashed the latest supersu.zip, wiped cache and dalvik, rebooted system. This is what i made.

Gracias (Thank you).

Did you use the latest version of LGUP to flash the latest TWRP?
