Thread Moved to General

Just so you're aware, I've moved this thread from Q&A over to General as it's more suited over here and won't fall down the list so quickly. It would keep getting completely buried in Q&A due to all the threads being created :)

I am not experienced so muchg with bricks unfortunately. Seems to be hard brick from what you said. Can you take it to AU shop? or are you outside Japan?

Try to look for info about normal (non-japanese) HTC One brick problems - they are 99% same phones - so it might help

I like most the latest 4.4 Beta ROM with 6.0 Sense, but I am using 4.2 right now because i need saifu keitai and some other japanese features that have bugs.
As soon as I go home from Japan , i will be using latest beta...

Hi. I am now visiting relatives in Japan, and was thinking of changing my old Samsung Nexus S...
I like the quality of service here, and I guess I can buy a used keitai with much confidence.
So I was thinking about this one,as I can find it here for about 25.000 yens, but I am wondering if I will be able to use it normally abroad, with almost all the features.

For example, can you run the 4.2 rom in english ? is it convenient ? One-seg feature is exclusively for japan I guess, right ?

If you think there is another high quality phone that can be bought here, please advise :fingers-crossed:

Thanks.

hello,

I have this phone HTC J One (htll 22) and I use it everywhere in Europe witout problem. To answer your questions:

1) You can Run 4.2 Rom in English, French, German, Ukrainian and many other languages. You can swith to English easily via Menu>Language and Locale > English, to swith to other languages, you need MoreLocale app and root.

2) One-seg is Japan only. No other country has this type of waves.

3) You can wait for Samsung Galaxy s5 which is coming in 3-4 month (it will be quite expensive at first). Otherwise, i beleive HTC J One is the best phone on Japanese market right now. Maybe Nexus is worth a look.

4) Yes, you can buy a used phone from Yahoo auctions for about 25000 or you can buy from http://www.Zenmarket.jp, even if you are abroad. Also, I have a slightly used rooted and sim-unlocked spare phone (PM me if you are interested)

5) to use the phone abroad, you need S-OFF, Root, and Sim-unlock. it is a pain, but it can be done if you are familiar with ADB and other stuff.

6) Is it convenient? I did not like the BlinkFeed thing. So I installed another launcher. Otherwise, it is a great, durable, very good looking phone. I am not going to change it for now.

HTL22 Sim Card Not Detected

I have HTL22 (HTC J ONE) and I've followed this forum to unlock bootloader, install custom recovery, install custom mods, S-Off and all, but I've had problem with phone not detecting a sim card.

I've tried many custom roms, and none have worked and i even bought a sim unlock code from one of the websites, however I couldn't figure out how to put that in as the roms do not ask me to enter a code.

Any kind of help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Are you in Japan? Did you buy your phone from auctions?
if answer to both questions is yes - you might be a victim of IMEI - lock by AU. This happense when the first owner of the phone is not paying for the phone, and thus phone becomes locked.

Your phone will work ust fine outside of Japan, but in Japan IMEI number is blacklisted. Changig IMEI in Japan is legal (unlike in many countries) but there is no easy way to change it. And it is not allowed to discuss methods for changing IMEI on this board :(

I'm outside Japan, in Asia. I bought it from auction it was rooted and the same sim card used to work before i rooted/unrooted/rooted it myself.

Thanks.

1) ask the seller what is IMEI number. If they do not give you the number, most likely it is blocked already
2) when you have the number go to
https://au-cs0.kddi.com/FtHome
http://nw-restriction.nttdocomo.co.jp/search.php
https://ct11.my.softbank.jp/WBF/icv...tmctr=(not provided)&__utmv=-&__utmk=79683988

3) input your IMEI in the search field and clik on CHECK (KAKUNIN)

4) if the result is ○ then no problem, if the result is △ There is a possiblility the phone will be blocked if the user stops paying the fees, and if the result is × - the phone is already blocked.

    HTL22 4.4.2: rooted

    Follow up for me:

I got my HTL22 back from AU after it went to HTC for a camera module replacement (bye bye to purple haze). They also replaced back plate, as is the case with many people who send it back. That's all fine. It came back with 4.4.2.

So, I bit the bullet and tried Sunshine: perfect (25 bucks in their bank - holy crap those guys must be able to retire now! Good for them, though. Jcase was really helpful on the IRC, too). Unlocked and s-off in no time. I then flashed TWRP 2.7.1.1 (look for openrecovery-twrp-2.7.1.1-m7wlj). System reboot, swiped for root, then installed SU via TWRP at the end.... voila. One rooted 4.4.2 au HTC One.

I also solved the annoying emoji issue: AU in their "wisdom" had HTC in the KitKat update for Japan put in a file called AUemoji which seemed to take precedence over the Google emoji that I enjoyed in Hangouts (it was like the emoji tray in Hangouts was half Google, half the boring Unicode ones). Anyway, renamed that file to 'AUemojiOLD.ttf' or something, and that's all sweet, too.

Still trying to work out how my phone with no apps installed by me yet can go down 20% overnight, but hope I can fix that annoyance with a few CPU tweaks, etc.
    2
So I had to get my phone replaced because the USB was borked (AU gave me a completely new one for only $50. Didn't even care that I had obviously S-Off'ed my original), and of course, the new one had the latest software and Hboot 1.54. Don't let anyone tell you Rumrunner will work with this unless you already have root (and not just temproot). Nor could I get the "fake.apk" file to work. Signing it didn't work, because it was corrupted every time I downloaded it (somehow).

Fear not! There are other methods, thanks to Towelroot!.. you just have the get the original version of it somehow (often called TR1.apk). If you can't find a copy (since it's no longer on the official site), you can try to follow these instructions instead.

The idea is to change the "OS Version" to something older, so that the RUU for the original, crack-tastic version can be installed. You will need the following:

    - Original version of Towelroot (tr1.apk)
    - HTCSoku's Misc Version Erase Script
    - The latest OTA file for best firmware. (Google Translate if your friend)
    - The OG RUU file (Via HTC Breaking Dev)
    - The specific, M7_WLJ version of Revone (No, the latest, general version will not work.) (Via HTCSoku)
    - A compatible version of Run_root_shell (or other temproot method)

Note: These instructions assume you have an understanding of ADB, Fastboot, commandline commands, and zip files. They provide no warranty, expressed or implied. IF YOU BRICK YOUR DEVICE FOLLOWING THESE INSTRUCTIONS, IT IS EXCLUSIVELY YOUR OWN FAULT.

    1. Rename your OG version of Towelroot to tr.apk and place in the "files" folder of the version erase script.
    2. Run the Version Erase Script. Follow the instructions. Your bootloader should now show "OS-" with no numbers after it.
    3. Enter the RUU mode via "fastboot oem rebootRUU"
    4. extract the firmware.zip from the OTA to your fastboot directory.
    5. Flash the OTA with "fastboot flash zip firmware.zip"
    6. Place the RUU file into the same directory and flash it with the same command, changing the filename.
    7. Use fastboot reboot to boot into the system. Everything will be wiped. Confirm the version is Android 4.1.
    8. Yes, your HBoot is still 1.54. Yes, you can still unlock with Revone. It just has to be the M7_WLJ version. No, Rumrunner, Moonshine, or Firewater will not work (or they didn't for me).
    9. Push the run_root_shell and revone binaries into /data/local/tmp. Rename them if you don't want to type that out every time.
    10. ADB shell and run your temproot then run Revone with the -P option. Your device should reboot.
    11. ADB shell back in and run temproot again. then run revone with the -s 0 option (for S-off). Additionally, you can set the bootloader lock state ( -l for locked, -u for unlocked, -r for relocked) and -t to remove the "TAMPERED" banner. (Note, I ran this will -l at first, which meant I didn't realize this worked until trying a number of different things)
    12. Reboot into bootloader and conglaturations! You should have S-off! You can now get supercid with "fastboot oem writecid 11111111" and flash a custom recovery with fastboot flash recovery. (tako posts his updates here. Twrp2.7.1.1 seems to lock up every time it erases the cache; I've had the best luck with the CWM version).

-- Want to go further and also unlock the SIM? Keep in mind, you are much more likely to brick the device doing this than the other things. Make sure you don't typo, particularly with 'if' and 'of'. You'll also need a hex editor. This is not for the feint of heart. (Reference Here)

    13. Hop into a root adb shell and do the following:
    Code:
    dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p19 of=/sdcard/misc.img
DO NOT TYPO. dd commands can easily brick your device.
    14. ADB pull the /sdcard/misc.img back to your computer.
    15. Hexedit this misc.img so that, at position 00001023, the value is 11 instead of 00.
    16. Push the edited misc.img back to wence it came.
    17. Now you will run dd again, replacing the partition with your edited version. Once again, make absolutely sure you don't typo:
    Code:
    dd if=/sdcard/misc.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p19
    18. Reboot.
    19. You should now be sim unlocked! I haven't actually tested this with another SIM since I don't have any spare, but the Japanese comments suggest it works, and at the very least, if done right, it won't break anything.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Currently running CM11 from Tako on mine. GPS is borked (accuracy is limited to approximately within 50 miles) and camera freezes seconds after opening, but it's Kitkat! Also, I more or less refuse to run without privacyguard or similar.

Edit: Found an update in the "old versions" that fixed the camera and (slightly) improved the GPS. At least it accurately tells me which direction I'm pointing now.

You can downgrade from hbot 1.54 to 1.52
