Yes this is for the new radio.
2.3.4
Again, we want to know if these are RILs for the new radio specifically for TMOUS Sensations. Because it's in it's own category, it seems like it's just a European/general RIL for the new radio, but for TMOUS we need specific RILs. AFAIK, the new update hasn't been released for TMOUS phones, only European ones, so, it seems like the new RILs are for the new radio for Euro Sensations. Which may or may not help TMOUS Sensation owners. We're just asking glitzbd for confirmation, specifically for TMOUS that's all. :cool:

I just flashed both, running p3d v3.1, and averaged between 800-900kb/s downloading large apps thru market. Using speedtest app I got about 4mbps but just gauging speeds loading webpages, general surfing, and doing large file downloads it seems to be on par with stock tmous radio/ril combo, maybe quicker...still need more time to accurately gauge speeds though...

Just try it and see how you like the new combo...it definitely DID NOT kill my speeds.

My ROM - LeeDroid v2.0 - already has this version RIL:

[16:53:47] jason[tty1]~/ $ adb shell getprop "gsm.version.ril-impl"
HTC-RIL 2.2.0169HMQ (Jul 8 2011,14:36:49)

So I want to know if that RIL in the OP is specific for TMOUS. If it IS, I'll flash, if it's NOT, I'll wait.

No the 169HMQ RIL is not for the TMOUS Sensation specifically, although it is required for proper functionality with the 2.3.4 Radio (from my experience, YMMV)

As for us getting our own TMOUS RIL we will need an official 2.3.4 from TMOUS and see if they use a different Radio/RIL combo!

Edit: I added a little side-note on the OP to hopefully alleviate any headaches you may be having, also I apologize for not watching the thread more closely, sorry!

No headaches at all man. You can probably judge from our previous PMs that I know what I'm doing. Just wanted confirmation on what I already thought was the case so thanks!! In any event performance with the new radio seems to be pretty good, but since it's not specifically for TMOUS, it could probably get even better. Will be interesting to see if TMOUS uses a different combo whenever that update gets pushed out :rolleyes: . :D

bigmase521 haha yeah I understand ya man, some others though had asked over PM, which I am perfectly fine with, mind you, but I figured any future headaches that could be avoided would save everyone time ;)

Perhaps to we should look at a stock TMOUS build.prop and see what copying over the radio specific commands do for us? I dunno most of these custom ROMs have custom build.prop files with their own mods, but perhaps those are Euro-specific edits?

Edit: Oh and I am still going to work on the automatcher that rmk dropped me, admittedly I've been lazy and tied up with nursing school application hogwash

Definitely agree about saving the future headaches for thread newcomers.

The stock build.prop is a good idea. I've been playing with mine the last few days and have made some discoveries. For example I get the best speeds so far with:

ro.ril.gprsclass=12
ro.ril.hsdpa.category=10
ro.ril.hsupa.category=6
ro.ril.hsxpa=3

The last one is probably the biggie. By default it's =2 but w/ =3 I get faster DL AND UL. And you're right about the Euro-specific edits. I'm running LeeDroid 2.0 and the build.prop it's all very Euro-specific. I just customize manually w/ each release but a one-size-fits-all that TMOUS users could then just copy over post-flash would be a great thing!

Subscribed for reference. Oh and this thread is very confusing. I'm on Leedroid 2.1.0 and still don't understand what radio to flash. Also how do I know what IRL my phone has.

This thread is NOT specific to any ROM.

This thread is specific to RADIOs and their matching Radio Interface Layer or RIL for short.

Just a simple disclaimer: If you are unsure in any way about what you are doing please cease and desist in applying any radios or RILs as these are specific to service providers and screwing around with radios can cause a *beep*load of problems

The only radios I’m flashing through adb are the ones recommended by the dev for the rom they are building. It’s just after reading the thread, this IRL stuff is all new to me.

It's quite simple really. If Chef recommends any particular RADIO, rest assured, corresponding RIL is in the ROm already, so you don't have to do anything.

I'm on latest radio and ril, but it gives me much weaker reception than previous radio, so i'm going to play around with radios and rils to see if different combo (yes, you can mix and match ril and radio, but do it at your own risk) improves things for me.

If you don't want your gps to work....sure.

Thanks

If you'd like to adapt the automatcher I built for Vision, here's the zip:

http://files.virtuousrom.com/vision/extras/rmk_pfak-radio_to_ril_automatcher-v3.zip

Take a look at the updater-script and layout of the zip file itself and it'll be pretty obvious how it works. I don't have the time to maintain it myself but if you're willing this is a much more straightforward approach for folks, since one zip can contain the appropriate rils for every radio.
Thanks for your support rmk. I've used this on my wife's G2 and I must say that it sure does come in handy. I haven't seen anyone take this on and I honestly believe it could do us some good for this and other devices. Mind if I take a crack at it ?

Hi All

Just have a question.
I have the Aussie Telstra NextG Version of the Sensation (Z710a) and had a look at the stock radio which is 10.43a.9007.00U_10.51.9007.27_M3 but interestingly the corresponding stock RIL is HTC-RIL 2.2.0159HMQ.

From the first post the RIL for that radio should be
HTC-RIL 2.2.0162HMQ and not 0159HMQ, any ideas why this may be the case

Should I replace the stock 0159 RIL to the 0162 RIL to match? or leave as is

Any help would be appreciated

From the 1.28.707.2 RUU:
10.43.9007.00P_10.11.9007.19
md5: 13a111f7e9b7f5d59d119c75c7fb9627

What about this radio I cant seem to find out which RIL will work with this one.

Im new to this RIL etc biz too, Im confused, so some questions:
Is is an absolute neccesity to flash a RIL? ie do i need to change radio/ril everytime i try a new rom? Do I need a RIL everytime I flash a new radio?
Is this a particular thing for tmob US or all regions/networks? Im on Orange UK.
If I flash a rom, then go back to my old rom via a nandroid backup, which RIL would i be left with?

Im asking since i had a bit of issue when flashing a rom and losing 3g connectivity, with the new rom, and even when the old backup when restored. It was probably an unlucky coincidence of the local cell going down, but want to be sure.
