Man if this has aws and is t-mobile ready might as well get this instead of waiting for the t-mobile version right?

If you have Tzones or Web2Go you might be able to use this phone with the cheap data plans.

If you already have a regular data plan with Tmobile then it would be best to buy it through Tmobile because it will be cheaper straight up and on contract.

Where can I get it from if I live in the states? Its not on ebay either...

G2X & Nexus S
Honestly, your best bet is to just wait a few weeks. T-Mo will have it on June 8th. If you could find an online dealer in the UK, chances are it would cost more for the device, shipping would cost ya too, and you'd still have to wait for it to arrive. By the time T-Mo has it, you can save yourself a few bucks and be satisfied knowing it's coming directly from T-Mo.

Since I'm in Canada, there's been no word of when it's coming here. Luckily my carrier is also AWS, so I'll be importing mine from the US :D

How are you planning to unlock it if I may ask? I would also prefer to import it from the US as it'd definitely be cheaper but I am worried about the SIM-lock while the UK version, though more expensive, would be unlocked...

Well SIM unlocking is easy as pie, at least when compared to unlocking the bootloader. I don't know the exact process, but once you find an unlocking service that supports the device, pay them $5-10 and get your unlock code. Quite often, those little private kiosks in malls that sell chargers, cases, and other phone accessories will also offer SIM unlocking. They don't usually advertise the service, but feel free to ask them.

I'll probably try buying mine pre-unlocked to avoid that small hassle. Typically in Canada, unlocked phones can be found a dime-a-dozen (figuratively) on Craigslist. I also know of a couple resellers of my carrier who personally import them from the US and SIM-unlock them theirselves. Of course, there's a small premium to pay for this convenience, but honestly, I'm happy to do so just to have the exact device that I want. Why limit yourself to what your carrier offers you when you know there's better phones available that are completely compatible with your network? :D Case in point, my Nexus One. My carrier doesn't offer it, but I bought mine imported from the US already unlocked (then again, it was never locked in the first place ;))

Here are some full-res photos from my Sensation - not as good quality as I was expecting.

These were taken using standard settings (although I did use an in-phone effect on the second photo which I quite like), and no digital zoom applied.

The photos seem quite heavily compresed & lack detail. Also not as vibrant, but you can modify the saturation settings for that.

1) wow. that seems like quite a let down for 8MP, but then again I haven't seen many 8MP shots before.
2) that effect is pretty damn cool.
3) is that a desire I see there!! wooo!

3264 x 1840 = 6,005,760

You sure you've got it set to 8MP?

samnada: Just noticed that myself! I had the 16:9 option set, which takes the resolution down to 3264 x 1840.

I've now taken a few more shots at 4:3, which is the true 8mp resolution.

They're all in upper medium light (indoor, near a large window on a cloudy day) on auto settings. The kitchen utensils is in quite low light (despite appearances) & without flash.

1) Check out the new photos I've uploaded - these are true 8mp resolution, and look slightly better than the original ones.

2) Yeah, there are a couple of cool / novel effects on there, good fun :)

3) Yep, I believe it is - it's my flatmate's, and I've just replaced a HD2 (with Android on of course).

Overall, I'm really happy with the Sensation - looks great, feels great & is the perfect upgrade to a HD2 (and probably Desire HD, but I skipped that).

Cheers,
Dan.

Ok. Understood.

Photo 1 is 2456x1909=4.9MP

The others are 8MP.

Can't see the ISO in the metadata on #4, but very low light has never been good on phone cameras. Maybe try with the flash.

Hi samnada,

Unfortunately, imgur is resizing the image but the original was 8mp, so you get the idea.

Thought I'd take #4 at lower light just to see how it handled it, which wasn't too bad. Coming from the HD2, the flash seems capable too, unlike my former phone which over exposed / blue tinted all flash shots (more to do with the fact android had been hacked onto it, rather than the original phone's software).

I don't think anyone would buy a HTC specifically for it's camera capabilities, and it may be something that's improved with firmware updates. I think Sony Ericsson lead the way in terms of photo quality (sensors, processing & lenses), but the instant-shot ability of the Sensation is very good & I can't complain about the image quality too much.

Regards,
Daniel.

Ok, that explains the sizing, and likely the compression artifacts in #1.

2 and 3 look good, and for low light 4 is as you'd expect.

I carry a camera when traveling anyway so don't expect a phone to replace that anytime soon, if ever. So far what I've seen of the Sensation samples it's at least competitive. I'd like to see a GSMArena camera eval but they don't have it up yet.

Appreciate you posting the samples.
