I've been reading this thread because I am interested in getting this phone as well, but I've also noticed few comments here that are incorrect regarding Smartbench 2011 (I'm the author).

First of all, Smartbench 2011 does not depend heavily on the I/O. Smartbench 2010 had some components of it, but it turned out to be so unreliable that I had to take it out, replace it with more extensive CPU test.

Second, Smartbench 2011 does recognize and use both cores. 2011 was re-written to do just this.

I will probably look into average of each CPU-related test scores to see why Qualcomm processor is recording lower scores. Each mini-test was designed to stress certain aspect of the processor, so there might be some answers hidden within the details of the test results in Smartbench results database.

My apology in advance for going off the topic. :)
Welcome welcome. Nice to see an author showing up in the forums :).

I think someone also said that its only showing 1 cpu listed in smartbench. Might be a place to start.

Yeah, but at least it isn't too bad :)

I love the feel of the phone, feels amazing compared to even the Desire HD!

Love it :D I can live with the Vodafone branding for now. It isn't too obtrusive.

Thanks. :D

How do people "see" number of CPUs in a particular app?

The version of Android shipped with Sensation is compiled with SMP flag turned on (as it should be with all dual-core devices). With this, if the phone is executing more than one thread, they will execute them in parallel. Smartbench 2011 produces 4 symmetrical threads for all of its CPU tests (hence it is friendly up to 4-cores). I'm not sure what it means by "showing 1 cpu listed in smartbench".

EDIT: Here's an article that explains the SMP flag on Android platforms.

I think its the HTC stuff here due to which 2 cores are not being detected. Like for Xoom, Atrix, GS II in quadrant system info the number of cores are 2 and for HTC Sensation ( the one i saw) has only 1 :/

Thing is just a theory I would test this myself when I get a sensation. Unlike tergra 2 and the sg2 processor don't remember the name these cores can run at separate cpu clocks and voltages. We don't know how these processors are programmed to work most logical is that what level the task a how much stress will cause it to trigger the second though it doesn't mean it uses the full voltage or clock. Seem as of the second processor is just doing just enough work to relieve stress. On the first. Again this is all theory.

I'm not good at developing apps, but when it comes to the benchmark and get a good view of how the Sensation holds up to the SGSII, what needs to be done is making the benchmark stressing both devices to their actual limit so both phones and both cores are tested??

Mine has come, the phone is all good so far...loving that at standard DPI I can fit as much on the screen (at least vertically) as I could my Desire Z set to 191.

The unibody is awesome, though there is a tiny nick on the inside next to the edge, which can annoyingly be seen when the phone is attached to the case...it looks as though something has got stuck between the screen and case.

Don't know whether to just dab it with a permanent marker, return it, or just buy another battery cover later on...!

Is there any mention of what 3G frequencies this version comes with?

Vodefone website says it has 850 ...HTC site says it does not.

I think mine is faulty, When ever i try to charge it, it gradually heats up and the led light changes from solid to flashing showing its overheated and also all sound stops like its in silent mode when its not. Then when i remove teh charge cable, the phone reboots itself.

Hi Acei

Really appreciate your reply as it shows "facts" rather than "assumptions" that everyone has been throwing around

What is the possibility of actually checking your benchmark 2011 to see why the sensation is scoring low. Do you require a sensation to be able to do that or do you just require to check the tests that smartbench 2011 performs

a lot of people here would like to buy a phone (sensation or SGS II evidently) and thus rely on benchmark software to get a rough idea of the phone's performance. So really appreciate your help here :)

Thanks

take it back mate, don't want to try and fix it when it should be working straight away. Go to a store tomorrow!

It sounds like the flux capacitor has gone on it.

Yeah, that's true :)

Be better when the development for custom roms start!

And I agree, I've just come from a desire hd and it feels a lot better!

Man... Thank you.. after seeing Sensation and SGII the Sensation look way more sleeker looking than SGII. SGII look fat and wide just like Thunderbolt just thinner. Can't wait till June 08 :)

I will look into it. I just need to write couple of scripts to add up different fields and produce average numbers for them.

If I can't find anything from these average numbers stored in the server, I will need the device itself. I'm looking into purchasing this phone soon. I will probably end up with Tegra 2, Exynos and Qualcomm dual-core phones at the end. I like to not just build a benchmark app, but also use them to see if benchmark numbers are realistic. (Or at least that's my excuse to upgrade my phones often :D )
