There have been reports of people running custom Android 5 ROMs having BTStack problems. My Google Play Music card doesn't work at all now. It doesn't even show. I can't interact with it or anything.

Mine has the system images, which is why it's bigger. The download from MEGA Seems to work for me but here's filedropper link instead. I know it may seem a tad dodgy but I can't post links and I am not developer status on Android Hosting.

filedropper .com/gwr511flashfiles

thanks i was about to do it and i get a popup on my watch saying update downloaded click to install :)

This thread will explain how to install Android 5.1.1 update on the LG G Watch R.

*NOTE* I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE YOU MAY CAUSE TO YOUR DEVICE AND ANYTHING DONE THAT IS SPECIFIED IN THIS GUIDE IS AT YOUR OWN RISK AND YOU THE END USER TAKE FULL RESPONSIBILITY FOR BRICKED, DEAD AND BROKEN DEVICES THAT COULD HAVE BEEN A RESULT OF THIS GUIDE*

*EDIT* This guide is like an OTA update and does NOT remove any app data. So no need to do "Forget phone" and re-pair!

NEEDED:

Android SDK Platform Tools - Fastboot and ADB (Can be obtained by downloading the Android SDK from Google)

Step 1:

The first step is to download to G Watch R System Images from Android File Host, download System, Boot, and Recovery (BELOW)

Android File Host - LG G Watch R System Images 5.1.1 - DOWNLOAD LINK

Step 2: Reboot into bootloader mode this can be done by turning the watch off and then swiping from the top left down diagonally while on the LG splash screen

Step 3: Navigate to the platform-tools folder in the Android SDK and type

You should see your device appear on this list if not then search for installing fastboot/adb drivers

Step 4: Extract the files in the gwr_5.1.1_flash_files.zip into the platform-tools folder

Step 5: While in bootloader mode type

The .img is important as fastboot won't find it otherwise

When this has completed repeat for each file changing the asterisked areas to recovery and boot while corresponding to the file name.

Step 6: Type

CONGRATULATIONS YOU SHOULD BE ON ANDROID WEAR 5.1.1!
Prior to step 5 I had to:
Code:
fastboot oem unlock
After reboot to fastboot - everything worked fine!!!

Awesome thread - thanks a lot OP! I have tried the OTA methods posted in other threads and I almost "bricked" my watch! This is so easy and straight forward - thank you very much...takes all of 5 minutes at most to flash and a coupla more to boot up first time and I retain all the apps on my device including the pairing with Android Wear...

Care to share how you solved your problem? I'm stuck on the LG screen, and my watch isn't showing up on 'adb devices'

The update to 5.1.1 worked well for me other than when I try to go to the recovery mode now I get the broken Android logo and cannot do anything other than reboot by holding down the main button. I tried reflashing the recovery from the image again, but keep getting the same thing. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this and recover my recovery mode?

I realize this thread is a bit old, but I just got my watch back from a factory repair and it came with 4.4w.1. You are able to download the update after a factory reset and connect, but you have to keep the tutorial active. For some reason, deactivating the tutorial cancels the OTA update.

I don't understand. If you set your watch up as 4.4w1 and then follow my guide it'll OTA to 5.1.1

I know, your guide is great. I was just letting people know that it's possible to OTA from 4.4w.1 without having to unlock the bootloader or flash the additional firmware.
