Hi guys! I'm planning on installing a new ROM which I think would require wiping cache and restoring to factory settings. My question is would it also erase the data on my nexus 7 like videos, songs, Android day files for games etc?

Sorry stupid question but I was used to my phone which has external sd which makes sure all those files are kept even after doing factory reset.

Thanks you!

I'm not sure how CWM handles such things, but in TWRP, there is an option to FORMAT DATA... which wipes everything on the emulated SD Card... including the ROM .zip you're about to flash!:(.

So if you avoid that option and just SWIPE TO FACTORY RESET you should be okay.

Still, having said that, it's better to be safe than sorry... so I would recommend performing a Nandroid backup first - and Titanium backups of your most important apps.

Okay I'm also on TWRP, meaning to say if I got to recovery and then straight to swipe to factory reset, my nexus will be on factory state but with all the movies, songs, android data still on storage?

Yep... that's pretty much it.

This, from a TWRP message output whilst performing a FACTORY RESET...

...wiping data without wiping /data/media...

If that weren't the case, and if it deleted all your user content, your Nandroid backups and the ROM .zip you intend to flash would be gone as well. So all that stuff (pics, videos, music etc.) is preserved.

Your user installed apps (from Playstore) will be lost though... so make a backup of them with Titanium.
