Thank you. I will stay away for the time being. It is said that Asus can detect unlocking of bootloader, even if it is relocked. Maybe I will unlock bootloader once there is some means to bypass the detection.
It goes by your imei, as soon as you unlock (with the unlock tool apk, which uses data to transmit the unlock /lock state) your device, asus know...
Where did you buy it from, is it a Tencent version or global? I'm not entirely sure asus even support devices imported for warranty purposes, I thought the warranty (in my case, 1 year with giztop with the Tencent version) was with the seller and not asus... But I could well be wrong about that... Maybe do some googling on it to check.
Hmm, I'm really not sure.

So every time we update the phone we need to:
1. reinstall TWRP
2. re- root
3 reinstall any Magisk modules
Do I have that right?
And what about any settings for Magisk, and modules, and xposed? Will all those settings need to be reset as well?
This sounds like a nightmare. Would it be possible to just copy over the boot partition from the old slot when updating?
The boot img must match the updated version, so I'm guessing not... It's one of the reasons I've not bothered to install TWRP. I have swift backup installed for backing up apps, data, WiFi passwords, call logs etc, and occasionally backup pics. No real need to have twrp, for me at least, other than backing up the rom, but that's easily recovered with asus' flashall_AFT.cmd in the raw roms...
