International Galaxy S II (i9100) vs AT&T (i777)?

There are a lot more differences than just the front mechanical button which everyone talks about.

#1: the i9100 has a built-in FM stereo RDS radio
#2: the i9100 has three front buttons one of which is mechanical
#3: the i9100 is factory unlocked (it was NEVER locked to start with)
#4: the i9100 has slightly thinner & smaller housing dimensions
#5: the i9100 weighs a few grams less

Here are the size/weight specs for each:

Samsung Galaxy SGH i777: Dimensions 126 x 66 x 8.9 mm Weight 121.9 g

Samsung Galaxy S II i9100: Dimensions 125.3 x 66.1 x 8.5 mm Weight 116 g

Most likely there are other slight differences which I have not yet investigated.

I do have TuneInRadio which I use, but would rather use FM to listen to NPR than through TuneIn.

Does NPR get your heart racing for a workout? Sorry, just had to, hehe.

I was going to reply with "who actually uses FM radio anymore?" ... but you actually brought up a really good point. My gym does too, but i usually listen to music not the TV, but very good application showing the continued need to have FM tuner built-in. Kudos for the comment.

The reason the fm radio is useless, at least to me is the fact that
to use it you must have some kind of headset plugged in or it will
not work at all.

I think that with all the these internet radio apps we really don't need it.

How often do you listen to music through the phone's (terribly sub-par) speaker? Usually for me I use headphones (antennae), or external speakers (antennae), so the issue is a moot point.

You need to download and install the free iHeart Radio app.

It has the NPR and clear channel stations in it.
Best radio app I found so far.....

Just have to correct you on something, the $5 Happy ending places are NOT on the edge of Dallas, they are on Harry Hines near downtown... Not that I would know anything about that.

I go to thailand also. Are you saying if you put a DTAC sim inside then the ATT SG2 will choose some other network such as AIS ? That really sucks if true.

Were you able to get decent 3g speed on dtac? They have some nice plans.

I'm in Bangkok all week w\ my SGSII (AT&T) and the thing that drives me absolutely INSANE is that AT&T blocks the ability to select which network you want to use. I have a local Thai SIM (DTAC), but I have to let the radio\ROM auto-select the network, which bugs the sh#$ out of me, because many countries have the ability to roam on several networks, and not being able to chose annoys me.

Maybe... They moved the noise-canceling microphone a few mm. I have a gel-type i9100 case, and I was able to enlarge the hole with a razor blade. (near the 3.5mm audio Jack)

Agreed. The international version looks like an iAndroid... unnatural.

My brother sold me his i777 since he got an i9100 on contract from our local telco, the i777 with ics'd out was faster than the i9100 stock, and comparable with the i9100 on an ICS beta.

I just flashed the ICS beta for the i777, seems as fast as before, hopefully i'll still have good/great battery as with ICS'd out.

International one have the audience chip correct? So all roMs should have support for it?

No they are not the same. Do NOT flash i9100 roms or kernels on your i777. You can try Hellraiser to port over roms if you're feeling adventurous.
