Totally worth it as I just flashed 2 days ago and very happy with the EU rom, all notifications show up on AOD now, android auto works as far as I can tell so far. and much more. Plus the battery life seems to be better on the EU versus the CN rom.

Hello
I understand that the eu rom has the mi dialer, mi contact and mi messages whereas the global rom has the Google dialer, google contact, and google message. What are the advantages of these mi apps compared to the google apps ?
Thank you

How is this rom in terms of 5/4g bands? Does the firmware change them? Because I have a global international version of the phone and the xiaomi EU is based on the chinese, do I have to flash any formware prior the install of the ROm or the firmware is included in the ROM itself?

You can usually skip the wipe if you're upgrading and if you get lucky you keep your apps, settings and data

If not, then I clean install

I'm currently waiting for the bootloader unlock then I'm flashing for the first time from global 12.0.1.0.

As moving from stock rom for the first time,to avoid any issue, what are the step by step procedures once I inject TWRP?

It's quite simple actually.

1. Unlock bootloader
2. 'fastboot boot twrp.img'
3. once in twrp, change the language to English :)
4. wipe (pretty sure wipe is necessary)
5. copy Xiaomi EU ROM zip file to your phone's storage
6. flash EU ROM via TWRP
7. reboot and enjoy your phone.

No idea about Magisk as I haven't flashed it. Also no need to flash gapps, they're included in the EU ROM.

Thanks buddy
Actually wipe what? There are 3 options: Manual, format, factory reset (through swipe). On my old one plus 3 I was usually swiping manually data\system\cache\dalvik or swiping for factory reset. Keeping the internal storage intact as I needed for flashing the rom. I don't think internal storage has never been an issue,so I don't think I need to wipe it.

Don't you have root on your phone? Magisk should be essential, shouldn't it? Is Xiaomi.EU rooted by default?

I also found this guide,
What do you think?

Also what is the latest Xiaomi EU rom? Where can I find it?

TWRP
6. On TWRP, Change the language of TWRP to English, by clicking the right button on TWRP and select English.. then OK.
7. Enter the device (phone) password and press Enter for TWRP to have access to the file.

What is this password the guide is talking about?

I have the CN version currently as it arrived this week finally and I'm torn between unlocking the BL and flashing eu rom or just sell it and grab global. I currently use AT&T sim in tray 2 and like you said I have full signal including 5G in most places and I'm sitting on Band 2 in NJ. I also tried my VZW sim as I saw a previous member mention it and sure enough it also worked once I disabled carrier Volte check and I was sitting on Band 4 as well at my house.

The only thing that keeps me wondering if it would be better is that the global version has a true 5G n5 band under AT&T and even VZW which most likely isn't even available for all i know in my area, but for an extra $500 is it even worth it I keep telling myself lol.

I believe you are on the eu ROM correct? If so how do you like it compared to the CN rom? Do you get all notification icons on the AOD which is driving me crazy on the CN rom that most don't pop up.
Yes, the .EU ROM fixes all those dozens of tiny little quality of life issues you have with the China ROM.

The thing with the China ROM is this: It's mostly okay, but there's a tiny little small things that drive you nuts. Individually they are no big deal. However compounded they do add up.

I actually used the Global standard Mi 11 back in Jan-Feb. I also flashed the official Global ROM on my Mi 11 Ultra for a couple days.

the .EU ROM is VASTLY superior to the OEM Global ROM. Night and Day. You get all the bells and whistles/polish of the China ROM, with sprinkles of Global ROM mixed in. IF I somehow got the Global Model with Band 66. I would STILL unlock the BL and flash .EU

I'd be more than happy to help you flash .EU. I know lots of people have bricked doing it, But I've switch ROMs literally 10 times or so. I've bricked my phone 4-6 times. I've basically figured out, how to MAKE SURE you will not get bricked when flash .EU. I know because I've figured it out by trial and error haha.
    4
First of all apologies for my ignorance. I only had one Xiaomi phone in the past, which was a Mi Mix 3 now the Mi 11 Ultra will be my second.
From my understanding, Xiaomi.eu ROMs are derived from the official CN ROMs. But is it worth the effort to install the EU ROM on a Global model? I guess I would also like to know, which would be faster to get updates: Global or EU?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

UPDATE: if you're hesitating about installing the EU ROM like I was - don't. Just unlock bootloader and flash it. It's definitely worth it. Two of the major improvements I've noticed is battery life is significantly better and phone doesn't get warm like it did on global firmware. Personal experience may vary, but for me it was worth it. Plus, I'm no longer stuck on MIUI 12.

I guess it all depends if you don't need a locked bootloader. Some people need their bootloader to be locked for some professional apps (Or a few banking apps, etc...). Most of the time Magisk manages to hide your unlocked bootloader but not always. So you have a risk for this in this very particular case.
If you don't need your bootloader to be locked, then go for the EU ROM. As explained by others you get more features and updates much earlier than the global rom gets.
All banking apps, and Google Pay NFC payments work with unlocked bootloader on .EU ROM no Magisk needed.
    2
How is the EU rom compared to the stock global? Is it debloated? Or You have to debloat it yourself?
