is it just me or is the display pretty disappointing

Yes my dear friend you are not the only one to experience this I previously had Samsung galaxy note 8 and upgraded to Samsung galaxy note 10 plus
When compared Samsung galaxy note 8 with Samsung galaxy note 10plus I found the colours on Samsung galaxy note 10plus to be dull

I am very disappointed about this thing
I thought colours will be more vivid and bright on Samsung galaxy note 10 plus but the thing was not as I expected.... Colours are dull than Samsung galaxy note 8

Hope this helps.... Me and you
You gotta set screen to vivid on n10+.
S8 came with adaptive setting, that correspond to vivid on n10.
N10 series come set with what you may know as basic on s8.

i doubt anyone complaining about the display has not thought about adjusting white balance or set the screen to vivid, for me i tried everything, even samsung themselves agreed from seeing the pictures that the screen is warm.

got an official response from samsung service here it is through google translate, the display lottery is very real and not something they seem to care about.

"The displays get different base contrasts during manufacture. Some have more blue light, some have green and others have red. The display colors can thus differ between different displays despite the same model. The easiest way to adjust this if you are not satisfied is to go under settings> display> screen mode and change the RGB or select a preset option such as "intense" to get clearer colors. "

I changed the Screen mode from Natural to Vibrant and the colors are a lot brighter and vibrant.
I was wondering why it was dull too. Then I remembered I had to switch from Natural to Vibrate it's like night and day the difference. It's funny how Samsung praises the vibrant colors and saturation and yet they leave it off to Natural out of the box. Which is more accurate, but does not feel like punchy or vivid. That's my preference, I leave it to Vivid.

Yeah I know right! They should've left it to Vivid out of the box. Good thing I accidentally stumbled across that option or I would have a really bad impression of this phone haha.

i don't know why i seem to be the only one, i always wanted a note because it's been praised as the best display of all time i finally got a note 10+ and the display disappoints me to no end, first off the colors are dull, my xperia xz1 on super vivid mode has more vibrant colors, second off the brightness it's not amazing if i compare my note 10+ to my huawei mate 10 pro the huawei appears more vibrant and bright, the huawei is running a custom rom, my note 10 + has custom white balance settings with green and red turned down to 0 and it's still too yellow for my taste the screen mode is itensive and yes bluelight filter is off, when i use the note 10+ on it's own i get used too it and i see no issues with the display but then i start up my mate 10 pro and get a much whiter better white and overall brighter image, my note 10+ is set to +10 brightness and high performance mode all auto brightness off and max brightness, white still appears dull colors appear dull, why am i the only one who feels this way?
It's just you.

i thought you could trust samsungs quality control but you can't if you're lucky you get a great screen if you're unlucky then you'll have to live with it, they themselves has now admitted that some screens can be red or green so be vary when you buy a samsung phone it may not happen often but it can happen that you get a bad screen i just had terrible luck.

after closer inspection i find the fold slightly too warm too when i launch super mario kart for example i feel it a lot not sure if that game is yellow by default it wasn't on the xperia 5 but it's more yellow than anything i run, but it doesn't feel near as bad as the note it is very ok and not at all bad but sometimes i do feel it especially coming from my xz1 which i would rank the highest when it comes to colors those colors are just amazing, i want to buy a xz3 just to see oled with super vivid mode, so yeah i do feel it a little on the fold which i didn't on the xperia 5, so if they take the note back which i hope then i guess i will stay away from samsung displays their calibrations are simply not for me it seems the fold is incredible though the colors pop and they are neutral it's just at certain situations i notice the slightly yellow ish white, it is so subtle that i would not complain about it this and i could be ok with it as the screeen is overall really good and it blinds me at night at max brightness if i put it close to my eyes i literally feel the brightness in my eyes as an unpleasant feeling like a burning sensation the note 10+ was headache inducing with it's red colors the fold is near perfect so i can only nitpick on the fold i also can't say that it's not a placebo as i don't have the note next too it but the fold does feel much better so i hope so much that samsung takes it back now so i can never make this mistake again, wish samsung provided higher temp settings as the temp slider makes near no difference at all on the coldest or warmest setting the change is very subtle on the xperia 5 you could turn it so blue that it was too much and just made the entire screen blue and thats the kind of settings i want on a galaxy phone, but i feel my demand for a specific type of screen with cold vibrant max brightness (what the screen is capable of and not limited i'd rather risk burnin than a worse screen) colors is so niche that i have to simply settle if i were to buy a brand new phone, thats why i need to see the xz3 to know if super vivid mode makes the same big difference it does on the xz1.

I'm not disputing your case. Indeed since beginning of oled craze every year you go through lottery whether it's cold or warm, does it have Grey or pink sides etc.
Which is why I always insist on inspecting screen before purchase.
If they are unwilling to open box, or make commitment that they'll open another on the spot in case screen turns out yellow etc, I don't buy.
Note, even yellow screens, and pink sisded curves, are vibrant, when set to adaptive in the past or vibrant nowadays.
But when someone comments "dull", "I turned off autobrightness and not getting as bright as such and such" (Sammy users know for a while that autobrightness gives highest score and is only triggered in very bright environment), then I must automatically think I'm dealing with newbies that no they did not think of it, or are coming from another brand and are unfamiliar with the way Sammy has always done things.

Frankly I find it funny watching videos of people, burning their retinas, comparing phones in dark environments while cranking max brightness. Then they have a shot in sunshine and they conclude.... Well...strange? IPhone and note seem about same brightness....confused? Duh

You know, the MAX brightness is just intended for extremely bright enviroments, if it was possible to have it always on, the screens would burn way too quickly, it is unavoidable with oled panels, customers would, in turn, start to complain about their screens showing burn in, to avoid this, the real max brightness is only available when extremely bright enviroments are detected, I understand your frustration, but Samsung has to balance these facts, as, in reality, few customers, really few, mind these things to the level of feeling as you do, something simmilar happens with the speaker volumes, they limit the output in favor of durability

sony phones actually display a warning when you try to put max brightness that having max brightness over a long period of time could be damaging and i think a warning is enough

I agree, that's the way Sony decided to set it up, and I believe Samsung also has the warning on manual brightness. But they also have a cap on manual, and autobrightness gives it absolute max then it senses strong glare.

I'm not saying that anyone's reasoning and decisions is the right one because every person's preference is different. But what I'm saying is that this phone is capable of reaching 1200 nits in daylight in autobrightness mode, with sun beating on it, and has vivid colors when set.
Anyone else testing it on manual and in darkness does not know about Samsung phones.
That does not mean that can not change.
Hey it only took them 8 years to not nag me about Bluetooth volume after reboot. But whadayanow? It does not nag me with this phone.

Now if only they allowed proximity sensor to work in Bluetooth mode and turn off and lock screen (I'm looking for a toggle here because I realize some people are using car Bluetooth), so that I don't leg call people and press bunch of buttons after phonecall.
See what I mean, we all got our wants.
